Woah, went out and bought the DVD version of Empire Records (your fault Kittyp if you read this
) as I only had it on video before and my video player died recently.
The DVD is a "remix special fan edition"
it's 16 minutes longer, so many extra bits and pieces.
I so love this film

The film is not about scaring the audience although I did jump a couple of times. Its about redisovering faith in a higher power, whether you happen to believe in God or Chaos Theory. The comedy elements are wonderfully gentle. The principle actors, Mel Gibson and Joaquin Phoenix were perfect in their roles, even though I had been dubious about them playing brothers considering the age gap between them.
I wont spoilt the ending for you but I can tell you there are lots of little things all the way through the movie that will probably niggle at you in a "Why did that happen?" kind of way. When you reach the final scene and everything falls into place I guarentee it'll bring a smile to your face.
