You'll have to be more specific than re: Canadian Politics. To which piece of meaningless drivel were you referring?

Please be nice to the retail people you encounter this christmas.

Just because the axiom says:

The Customer is Always Right

Doesn't mean that I can break laws of physics to help you. wink

Thanks

One of the world's best restaurants, Charlie Trotter, is in Chicago.

Bring 300$ a person though, and wear a jacket. Do the chef's tasting menu.

We have too much respect for unsubstantiated opinion. We enshrine it, we tiptoe cautiously around it and we avoid challenging it, to our shame.
Somewhere we taught ourselves that our opinions are more significant than the facts. And somehow we get our egos and our opinions and Truth all mixed up in a single package.

I am proud of my country dammit.

No. I don't really have much experience with poetry. Just through school and redwinterroses (she is amazing) here. Occasionally something else sticks out to me. Poetry generally doesn't stir me like music does.

And I don't live in Calgary.

Apparently his cousin snapped that while we were sleeping at his family's cottage.

My mom is getting threating letters because she is a board member for the United Churches offering of the first Gay and Lesbian premarital counselling sessions in Alberta.

My mom is cool.

Well, good on your Mom. I assume she's not telling them that they are abominations and god hates them? smile
lesborella:
Your mom is cool. If you tell me what size she wears I'll send you this to give her at no charge. My mom pretends she is cool with homosexuals but she isn't. she has a gay hairdresser (shocker) and thinks that makes her cool. But then she makes remarks like, "I think they must have very sad lives". No, they're gay. Gay means happy. they wouldn't call themselves Gay if they weren't. and she's not even religious. she's just intollerant. and she thinks that homosexual men are pedofiles. She doesn't see that there's no more connection between gay men and young boys than there is between straight men and young girls. Most adults are only attracted to adults. Homosexuals aren't deviants. My mom, she's a deviant.

Danaide and I are taking a little trip to Ottawa, Montreal and Quebec City. Any suggestions on where to stay, what to do, where to eat, etc? Has anyone stayed at the HI facilities there? Any comments about such?
Anything would be great.
Thanks.

Thanks!

I will have to make up to great white north someday. I've skipped the whole deal and been to Alaska three times though... confused
i_m:
Are you still planning the trip? If it rains while you are out there, you must see the falls in Quebec City, you can see Wolfe's encampment while you're there; Orleans (Isle) is a nice little drive too. Actually, Quebec City isn't all that big, you should just see it all! Old Montreal is certainly a must too. I always enjoy the "Two Parrots" (can't spell the French name), but I don't think you can really go wrong with any of the restaurants or bars there. All I remember about Ottawa is an endless number of museums and that they roll the sidewalks up at 5:00 - seriously - you'll be lucky to find a gas station open. I think Sparks Street is the only exception. An interesting place, but not necessarily 'fun'. Alright, just writing about it is giving me the itch to go back to Montreal!

A good friend in England just died tonight
(not from the London bombings, just old age)

She was smart, funny, helpful and full of fire.

Goodbye Kath.

To answer your question, money order. You can't pay for a year at once any other way from here.

Danaide accidently posted her jouranl entry here. oops!
Check it out, it sumarizes our flooding experience.
lesborella:
Don't go too close to that river. I have an entire post dedicated to not wanting to die doing something stupid, and they always have people on the news who decide they want a better look at the hurricane, tornado, or axe weilding maniac and nothing good ever comes of it. There will be plenty of pictures on TV.

And don't go telling me that you can turn yourself into a fish if you're pursued. I don't think you're that Andvari, are you? And it's odd that Danaide is worried about the basement flooding considering if she is condemned to fill a container with water but the container can never be filled. And as an aside, aren't you a wee bit concerened she's named herself after someone who killed her husband? (although you'll probably reassure me she's named after the sculpture in her profile pic. I'm sure that's what she told you)
And not to go on about this Batman movie too much, but as fun as the first Batman movie with Michael Keaton is, you really have to accept a lot of things for no good reason. Boy they spend a lot of time thinking up good reasons for why stuff happens in this Batman movie. You can almost believe that this guy could be running around somewhere.

And when you say explore Batman/Catwoman's relationship more fully, you mean show them doing it, right?

Kinda nervous.
There has been severe flooding here and we're on the floodplain. The house is actually below water level right now, only the levy is keeping us from being wet. The water is at a level "never before reached," something like 20 times its normal volume. We've hauled everything out of the basement.

I went to Prince's Island to check out the damage. The...

Jeez, be careful with that flooding. You didn't like the second Batman? With Catwoman?
Come on... Penguin was not so good, but Catwoman?

going out now... might pick up some fun things for myself.
