I just realized how ironic it is that Independence Day is in the beginning of July, making the people born then Cancers, who are known for being dependent.
My problem, though, is not that I have personality disorders, only that I have the wrong ones. For instance, my life would be so much simpler if I was a narcissist. Narcissists have no problem finding love. If I was a narcissist and a solipsist*, I could have anyone in the world as a lover.
Of course, narcissism has its problems. What happens when a narcissist feels smothered, when he needs time apart? Does he take a vacation, or does he just send his mirrors on vacation? Also, what happens when his partner wants more of a commitment? Marriage is entirely out of the question, and even civil unions are banned in most states.
So I guess every relationship has problems, no matter how simple it seems.
*narcissism (nr`sĭ-sĭz'm) n. 1. Excessive love or admiration of oneself. 2. Erotic pleasure derived from contemplation or admiration of one's own body or self, especially as a fixation on or a regression to an infantile stage of development.
solipsism (sŏl`ĭp-sĭz'm) n. 1. The theory that the self is the only thing that can be known and verified. 2. The theory or view that the self is the only reality.
