Brian Levy wrote today about the issue of inappropriate comparisons to Hitler. Since I saw a "Daily Show" report on this subject last week, I consider myself an expert. I must say that this has been a problem for far too long. Democrats are comparing Republicans to Nazis and Republicans are comparing Democrats to Nazis. It's absurd. Show a little decorum, people! Here's how arguements are supposed to go: If you disagree with someone who is more right-wing than you, you compare him to Hitler; if you disagree with someone who is more left-wing than you, you compare him to Josef Stalin. It's not that complicated! Yeah, I know that Stalin was on the good guys' side of World War II, but in terms of sheer horrific evil, it's hard to top Stalin. Besides, if you're referring only to World War II, you're just going to remind everyone that Franklin Delano Roosevelt (you know, the guy who fixed everything) was a Democrat. Some pansies might whine that Winston Churchill was a Conservative, but I'd like to point out the simple fact that British politics don't count. Also, you're gay.
Anyway, why does everyone have to go for World War II for historical context? World War II wasn't the only thing that happened in history. After 12 years of public education, I know fully well that there were in fact two things that happened in history: WWII and the Civil War. The Civil War is a great thing for Republicans to dredge up. It's the one time in history when the Republicans were absolutely right! Here's a little tip: Next time some liberal sissy is going on about civil rights or basic human rights being trampled by some facsist, just chime in, "You mean like the right to own slaves?" Congratulations! You just won the arguement!
... that is, unless you have a moustache... because that's exactly the kind of facial hair that someone would wear while murdering a whole lot of people...
