I believe that everyone in the world experiences the same thing.
Now that I've made such a broad generalization, I must clarify the idea. I don't believe that everyone goes through the "exact" same situations, but I think we all experience the same life. Life is a communal phenomenon that traverses the boundaries of individual experiences and I believe that we each experience different flavors of the same idea; tragedy, love, riches, humiliation, fame, regret, inspiration, birth, death, creation, destruction, fear, bravery, humility, it's all the same. Bill Gates and the bum sleeping under Burnside Bridge tonight; I believe these two people experience the same hardships in their lives. Keep in mind I'm not speaking in literal terms, obviously, but I think if you can look past something as insignificant as dollar amount that it's easy to find similarities.
The sense of self is something that is tied to life; It's not something that can be traded or exchanged. I don't believe the sense of self is tied to an individual soul, but that souls are tied to life, which leads to my belief in reincarnation. There is nothing that seperates myself from you, "I and I", except our point in life. I believe that when I die, I will awake as you. When you die, you awake as me. I think the idea of individuality is completely mis-represented and incorrectly defined. People identify themselves with a particular consciousness, but the truth is that this consciousness is something that we all share, we just don't have the clarity to see through the dividers that seperate our experiences with that consciousness.
Ahh fuck. This is too hard to explain. I'm going to bed.

I was actually thinking about this same issue really recently. I was telling a friend that no hardship I experience, and probably no thought I have, is truly special or unique. She didn't get that I didn't mean that in a bad way, I just meant that even if it seems like two people are going on completely different paths, our life experiences are usually pretty similar in some way.
