A few things...
Was five minutes late for a training class today because people do not know how to drive in the fucking East Bay. Being a few minutes late is almost more infuriating than being like an hour late. Boss was texting me asking where the fuck I was. Not good.
Today was rounds day. Every tuesday and thursday the operations management team (VP of Animal and Customer Care, Director of Customer Care, Manager of Customer Care {me}, Manager of Animal Care, Director of Behavior, Manager of Medical, Manager of Special Needs) tour through the entire shelter an make the REALLY difficult decisions. Today was a heavy feral cat day. Which inevitably leads to a heavy chain smoking day, for me and most previously listed. I did, however, find my voice and get a few of the tougher non-ferals saved...I'm getting better at speaking out in this group thats got a million years of experience and age on me.
Had a very small kitten in my sweatshirt today...on the boob shelf. His name is Button and he fits in my hand!
Later in the day, finshed off a giant veggie sammich and got in my car, only to find it wouldn't fucking start. So many sad, defeated sounds came from a battery I knew was on its last legs. A call to my annoyed boss, a jump with borrowed cables, and 100 bucks later I don't have to worry about battery issues anymore.
Got back to work just in time for my staff to be locking the door for the night. Then, proceeded to spend two more hours comparing the percentages of overtime accumulated by them in August to those in September. Then writing out hold-my-tongue diatribes to the board members justifying said overtime because it means more fucking animals will stay in their adopted homes....wait....I work with animals? Sometimes it feels like I work more with keyboards and email.
If you made it through this rant...thanks...I have a cookie to send you via snail mail.
