Do you guys ever have those moods where everything in the world seems to annoy you?
My recent pet peeve has become, really clich quotations from the most generic great thinkers. Its ok if you want to comment on this persons quote, but if you like do a flip through of the Greatest American Quotations book and choose a few to represent your personality. How fucking lame is that? Its like, I cant come up with anything poignant, witty, OR even original. So Im going to say something that makes me sound smart and dash someone who is smart so that people know that Im smart. Negative. Catchphrases, people who quote funny things to be funny, this is ok, timing can make quoting funny, timing can even make someone smart if they quote something relevant at the right time in a conversation. To have quotes however as part of a profile, ABOUT ME box, or any sort of INFO is starting to get on my last nerve. Im sorry if anyone is offended by this but it has to be said. If you really live by certain quote and its been influential in your life in many occasions, fine. If you treat it as posting favorite song lyrics at the moment, because you just like how something sounds, or what it says and want other people to see it and appreciate it too thats ok too. Its just when people post quotes to stand in for their opinions, cant you say it in your own words? Bah. Maybe Im taking some people quoting because they like a quote, as them trying to define themselves with the quotes and thus getting annoyed for no reason. Im not saying everyone who has quotes floating around their online selves is stupid or annoying. Im just saying dont let other peoples words represent your personality or opinions, that wont get anyone anywhere. I'm also saying, I almost never read any quotes because they are always out of context and usually not that profound. Im also willing to bet Im not the only one.
P.s. Any billboards or awareness type messages on TV/radio (or anything really), that says Think about it! is fucking stupid. Like that sentence is going to catch me off guard and cause me to really think about the message any more than I would have if they hadnt included that sentence?
