1. parties
2. "free" food (subtract 42$ con membership from estimated value of munchies I can consume in any given period=-40$)
3.Costumes! I get to dress up, try to get welntaod to dress up, and I also get to ogle/laugh at/snicker at/stare at other peoples costumes
4.possibility of meeting people who can read my tengwar tattoo
5. the ferry ride to long island
6.Hotel Room!!!!
7. My nut job ass hole father will be there ( an item for the bad things list) but we will likely be able to avoid him most of the COn and this is a great way to hang out with him without actually having to a.) hang out b.) spend very much time talking. I can give him his christmas present which will save me on postage a lot since it's an enormous book of civil war maps that I got on heavy discount at barnes and nobles before christmas. it's like 24'' by 48'' inches.
8. John Norman will be there- author of the Gor novels, which innumerable "gorean lifestyle" sites are based on. IF you want to know what I think about GOr novels, please wait for the essay version, since I love/hate them and went to a very lit heavy college and my analysis would be lengthy. I have a collection of these books and the older printings have excellent 1970's paintings of slave girls on them.
9. I will not be the geekiest person around by any stretch of the imagination.
10.) I haven't been to a science fiction convention since like 1998 or so.
11.)I'm obsessed with the weirdness of hotel spaces and architecture- the whole sameness yet alienness of it- the sort of expectations of the space.
why sci-fi conventions are good is another essay sort of thing. I love meeting all sorts of freaky, geeky, smart people with weirdo hobbies. Sound familiar?
