Ever since i got the job that i have, i've been hesitant to embrace it because i dont want to become it.
I dont wanna put film making on the back burner and make it a hobbyturn full time laborer.
But here i am, a Cleaning Technician (READ: Janitor...), with a problem.......
The reason i could say i was a film maker over a janitor is because i was.
I spent more time MAKING FILMS than i did cleaning things.
MAKING FILMS were more important than...well....finances, really.
But Pinnacle has pulled support for Studio 7. Studio 7 being the archaic editing programme that i was using.
S7 did what i needed it to. It did the basics of capturing, cutting, faders, transitions, correcting, encoding et al, but it was always one step behind what i wanted to do.
I was limiting myself to the basics of what i wanted to dothe basicsand it was locking and crashing every five seconds.
A constant slowdown.
I had to cut the KMFDM, UAIOE video down by 4 pieces and reattach everything, correcting sound and resynching video.
Watch for pop throughs.
Watch for unwanted saturation in transitions.
You cant put a 24PFS clip in a 30FPS video.
You cant edit MPEGs, you cant resize AVIs.
This is pushing the limits of what i could do. Barely 1minute and 30 seconds of shite, and it slowed the programme to fucking molasses.
But i was biding my time with Studio 7 until i could readily afford Vegas Video+DVD.
Unfortunately VV+DVD runs at around $1k.
And I've never really had $1k readily on hand.
So my plan was to do the Docuthingie, make some quick bank and buy VV+DVD.
But Pinnacle pulled support of Studio 7.
Studio 7, the programme that's 5 or six years old and could only run on S's comp with the update.
Which was lost in the last crash.
And is unable to get back.
Because Pinnacle pulled support.
The new Studio, Studio 9, is more like Vegas, but less.......glossy. Less professional.
Studio 9Vegas Lite.
Vegas is professional, exquisite, top o' the indie line.
Basically.
It's the highest you can go without certification.
Basically.
Vegas is the Pinnacle.
But i lack the proper funding.
I can afford Studio 9priced at $200.
Vegas Lite, only 200$
But it's gonna put a dent in my new camera fund.
So my decidedly part-time stance on my janitorial gig is in jeopardy.
Because i need the funding.
And i was offered an all nighter tonite. A chance to earn an extra 100$, half of what i would need to get it.
But i turned it down. Cos i'm still resistant. Because Leary said being a Dependable Worker was on the bottom of the list. Because 9 years later, i still believe this.
Because i have to prove something to myself.
I bought Irreversible over the weekend. I've been wanting to see it ever since i heard about it. It's supposed to be one of the most brutal, beautiful movies ever.
But i havent watched it yet.
Because i'm afraid of it.
Even the exit sign's got a nervous tick...
