I watched Cabin Fever last night. Wow. What a piece of crap that is. Well, not really. It was bad, but not the worst modern horror flick. Though they did completely rip off the end of Night Of The Living Dead. Sorry if i ruined the ending...
so here's the thing, when i'm eating peanut butter and jelly, the last thing i wanna see is a movie about a flesh eating virus...or whatever. Vomiting blood is always gross.
And this is the second time i've watched this movie. The first time was when it came out on DVD. Sammy and i rented it, got well drunk, and watched the shit out of it. Afterwards, we took my POS sword and decapitated some Barbies.
Good times!
Jerry's always telling me that, one day, i'll read something that will kill me...
they were having a thing at work today for AIDS Awareness. It was a big production featuring the HIHAC folk and councilman Eric Turner. This meant a media event (local newsinsert masturbatory gesture here). Being a cynic my nature (or nurture) i quickly thought if the cameras werent here, would they still care? This is the modern version of if a tree falls in the forest...
your facade is only as good as the media coverage, i suppose.
Modern day image making.
And speaking of PR events, the med school is doing a word of the month dealie. In which they highlight a word which represents the core values of the school! This month, the word is Respect.
Respect isnt something i take lightly, dont get me wrong. So i have a problem with the way it's being marketed as a value set that the entire school follows, when most of the doctors (and a lot of the students) refuse to respect anyone who makes less that 80k annually.
Anyways, here are the Respect Rules the school has decided on:
Don't insult or degrade others.
Listen to others when they speak.
Value other's opinions and talents.
Be considerate of others likes and dislikes.
Be considerate of other cultures.
Be sensitive to situations and feelings.
They say, Respect is not fear or awe, it's the ability to see people for who they are and accepting their individuality.
They say, respect is treating everyone and everything as valuable in itself. Not using someone or something merely for self gain. Like a PR flier, maybe? It's attempts at being sincere or genuine (leave no adjective behind!) comes off as weak, ineffectual sentimentality. It comes off as an attempt to convince themselves that they are respectful of others.
Oh, the irony!
There's also a spiffy Respect Test at the bottom. It is as follows:
(six questions, true or false, so dont worry...)
--i treat other people the way i want to be treated--
--i am considerate of other people--
--i treat people with civility, courtesy, and dignity--
--i accept personal differences--
--i work to solve or resolve problems positively--
--i never intentionally ridicule, embarrass, or put down others--
Then it says, How did you rate? Are you a respectful person?
Unfortunately, there's no rating system included. I wonder what a 4-of-6 is? I hope it's positive...i hope it doent mean i have cancer.
"I will ignore it all together and pretend it doesnt exist ( much like i pretend kid rock doesnt exist) ... "
