Yet again, I have no voice. This is because I had a cold, and almost everytime that happens, part of the healing process evidently involves my vocal cords. It's really understandable this time, because a sore throat was a major part of the illness. Thankfully, when I lose my voice, most of the throat pain goes away for a while, so even though I'm a mute, I'm a happy mute.
The sound of silence
though sweet to the ears of man
Soon becomes boring
The worst thing, really, is even though I normally hate talking on the phone and will avoid it if possible, when I lose my voice I get the urge to call people.
This morning is probably going to suck. I can't give anyone any verbal commands, so I have to settle for standing around and looking forbidding. I only have six residents to supervise, but I've been told that I may be moved onto the next hall for the morning to be a second for one of our other staff, and he really seems to have all the motivation and presence of a stoned groundhog. Have you ever had someone tie you to a chair and fold a roadmap incorrectly in front of you? Oh. Well. Anyway, I'm basically going to have to watch a apathetic newbie do my job, and I CAN'T SAY ANYTHING! It's like a obsessive-compulsive's nightmare. Oh well. At least it should be funny later.
I just read Silence of the Lambs. Yeah, I know, but I'm always getting around to stuff late. Almost every book is better than it's movie, and that is extremely true in this case, I think. This is one of those books that's more about the internal evolution and events of the main character, and the outside action is just a framework to drape all that characterization over.
