Well, since pretty much all of you said I need to do the life experience thing and go globe trotting, I guess you deserve an update. Obviously that was the best choice, and it wasn't really so much should I do it, but do I want to do it.

I had fears about spending a year living out of a backpack in exotic locales due to things I'm particular about, so I've decided instead to concentrate my travels on Europe, and select parts of the Middle East and Russia, and shorten my trip to 3-6 months instead of a year. I stick to more culturally familiar territory and I'm away from everyone I know for a shorter period of time.

I usually tend to really go all out when I do things, and that sometimes doesn't work out so well for me, so I figure something less ambitious to start with would be better, and I'll go from there.

In other news, Silencia updated her journal with pictures from our Vancouver road trip, so I guess I have to follow suit and write a belated journal entry on the subject...

SPOILERS! (Click to view)

A couple months ago I was talking to Lyxzen and she informed me that she'd never been to Vancouver, despite having lived in Portland her entire life. Vancouver is an awesome place with awesome people, and I could not allow her to be deprived of such awesomeness for much longer, so I told her the next free weekend she had we were going up. And so we did, on Canada Day weekend no less and with Silencia in tow.

Because we also attended Seneca's birthday party the same day, we ended up arriving in Vancouver rather late and drunken beach antics were already in full swing. Afterwards we had vegetarian food at a place nearby.

From left to right is redmess, her comedy troupe partner Sheila, Lyxzen, and Silencia. Also in attendance were Cherry, her dude Matt, and zathril.

Afterwards we were offered a place to crash with the kind, lovely, and glamorous redmess and had breakfast the next morning, with Malloreigh joining the gang.

You can tell why Mal gets paid to be naked on the internet. You can also tell that there are no boys in this table; we were all relegated to our own table. We were pretty much at the whim of the girls all weekend which is why our next stop involved shopping. Here's Cherry doing her thing at one of the boutiques we stopped at.

Afterwards more fun in the sun was had at Kitsilano Beach...

...and Silencia decided she was going to build sand boobs.

Later in the day we went to FreakPirate's favorite spot, Zulu Records, and Lyxzen bought some guilty pleasures, of which she has a few. Then we walked for a while, because I have a horrible sense of direction and could not remember where this yummy Japanese restaurant was, until I was helped by angelvanilla and fenris23 who we had dinner with and then spent the night hanging out with.

It being Canada Day we got to see some celebrations taking place, including fireworks over the water, which like Canadians themselves were modest, but cute.

The next day we had breakfast at the Templeton, which has become somewhat of a tradition for me and is usually my favorite part of the trip. We then ventured to the outskirts of town so Cherry could shoot a set for Lyxzen. Matt and I were there, and us being boys, the girls told us to go fly a kite.

So we did...

Then we went for some bubble tea because we were all dehydrated from the hot weather. You can't really tell from the picture, but the only English on that label is "Mika is a wreckless girl"...so that's good to know. I had banana flavored tea, because though I've never had bubble tea before it's hard for something banana-flavored to taste bad.

After that we went to a picnic Malloreigh planned for the local SGs, and as usual I was the only dude there; I've gotten pretty good at that. From left to right is Cherry, Lyxzen, Silencia, Starla (who has fabulous stories to tell), Mal (who brought yummy vegan chicken salad sandwiches), and Truffles (who is as cute as can be).

I basically just laid in the grass and enjoyed the breeze while the girls talked about girly things. A little later on Starla and I tried the zip line, but it was not very adult-friendly. I have decided to build an adult-sized playground in Portland, with a bar of course. I think this is a genius idea, so you better not steal it from me.

Just as we left Portland midway through a fabulous party, we had to do the same thing in Vancouver, as Lyxzen had to work in the morning. We stopped for a bit in Seattle, at which point Silencia, who will probably never ride in a car I'm driving in again, took over the wheel for the rest of the trip.

And that's all I've got for you. Hopefully the prettier pictures will be uploaded by the people with the nice cameras in the near future, because mine were taken with my shiny new iPhone at the time as I'd forgotten my camera at home (I always forget something on trips).
