Watched Sympathy for Lady Vengeance last night. I personally didn't think it was as good as Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance. Similar theme, but where SfMV was tragic, SfLV was simply cruel. In SfMV, the characters start out with good intention, but then things go wrong. In SfLV, the good intention is never really there, so the movie has a very different feel.
It was also a little harder to follow for two reasons. Firstly, there's a lot more dialogue than in SfMV, and it can be a bit frustrating trying to catch all the subtitles and still watch the movie (although portions of it are spoken in English). Secondly, in SfMV you pick up on the direction of the movie very early - the guy wants to help his sister, and winds up having his kidney stolen - the reasoning is right there. In SfLV, the reasoning isn't shown until much later in the movie, so trying to understand what's going on and why is a bit harder.
I went looking for some more Chan-wook Park films. I got a bunch of titles, but I can't seem to track any of 'em down. If you've got a list of some good Korean flicks by other directors (or even just similar flicks), please, by all means share your knowledge.
