My goodness! Where do I start? This weekend was fabulous. I woke up late Saturday morning over my fever and ready to see the SG Burlesque show in Austin. Fortunately, the lovely girls Grrlhavoc & Buffinmuffin were also headed that way, so I got to ride with them. Not only did I get to ride up there with them, but they were super-sweet and let me stay with them at Buffinmuffin's friend's adorable place overnight. We got into town and got ready for the show, headed over to Trudy's, and discovered that any one of the many groups of funky people there could have been SG people. Many embarrassing moments ensued, as we asked people "are you meeting someone from a website here?" It just sounds bad! We didn't manage to meet anyone from the group, so we eventually headed on over to Emo's. Buffinmuffin's friends, who were also sweethearts, met us there and took us out for pizza and more drinks before the show got started.
When we came back we were lucky enough to be seen by an old member, so we got to meet the insane Texas group. Everyone is so awesome! I don't remember everyone I met, because the group was kind of large and Emo's was crazy, but of course there was the ever-sweet and cool Mulhollanddrive, smokepuppet, Apnea, zephyra, muse, infidel, LX, and many others. The show was way too short! I am way too short! I couldn't see a thing, so don't ask me how it all went, but I'm glad we supported our girls. I loved the chocolate number, of course, and the O.D.B. and Bjork numbers were great as well. It was decided pretty early on by everyone present that the opening acts sucked. I would have rather listened to the Stones on the jukebox than those silly boys playing live, but whatever. We all had a good time.
After the show we all headed to Magnolia for late night snacks/breakfast and to watch a few Texas crew members get feisty. Some of us were lucky enough to enjoy the chocolate syrup routine close up. Not me! I had a great time, though, and the girls and I didn't get to bed until 4:00 am. Sunday we headed over to San Antonio to meet the very quiet, very sweet Volkov for a late lunch/early dinner. We had delicious Mexican and gave him the highlights of the show (VIOLET!!!). Then we headed home to Houston. I want to move to Austin more than ever now!
Overall, the show was a lot of fun. I didn't get to see much, and it was pretty short, but to me it was worth the ticket price to support the act. I had a great time meeting and hanging out with Grrlhavoc and Buffinmuffin, one of the cutest couples ever. It was so odd to see that many SG members in one place; it's tough to get many people to come out in Atlanta.
I'm glad I got to meet the other crazy Texas SG peeps.
disclaimer: written in a sleep-deprived stupor; any omissions or false descriptions are unintentional-you know I love you all!
PS: did anyone else adore Jason's little bossa nova ditty "Brazilian Sunspot" on Home Movies last night?
