Yay! I'm home! New Orleans was a blast! I am in love with that city. Unfortunately, none of us realized the Bayou Classic was going on, and that our hotel room (actually, our entire hotel) was going to reek of pot, beer, and vomit. Oh well. The city was too gorgeous for me to complain.
All the gigantic old trees and antebellum homes reminded me of Atlanta, but were even older and prettier than anything there. I am so glad I'm Southern I didn't have to buy my own drinks all weekend, thanks to the generous gentlemen (and one lady) of New Orleans, and I got the best souvenir of all: a new tattoo!
It is very tiny and simple, but I am so very, very pleased with it, and with my experience at Electric Ladyland. My artist, Cameron, had a beautiful portrait of Dali in his studio, that he had painted himself, so we talked about the Dali Museum in St. Pete, FL and I didn't mind that it felt like someone was slitting my wrist open. He said my other tattoo was very well done, which was a relief to me, because I wasn't very thrilled with the shop where I'd had it done. I thoroughly enjoyed myself, and if I wasn't so poor, I would have gotten something else, too. They run a great shop.
My Druid crescent moon was definitely the highlight of my trip, as I've wanted one forever, but I really want to move to New Orleans now! It wasn't fair to only have a weekend to take everything in. I want to come back for at least a week, when the city's not so crowded with drunk people.
Thanksgiving in Austin was lovely, and it made me feel so bad to have to run off to New Orleans when my cousins wanted me to stay all weekend. It's better to leave people missing you, though, than overstay your welcome, right? I wish I could have stayed longer, too, because my family there kicks ass and Austin is so much fun, but I'd never been to New Orleans.
I'm going to put up my pictures from New Orleans and Thanksgiving as soon as I get them developed. It was so lovely to come back and find all these sweet notes from everyone I hope everyone had lots of fun this weekend, and a good holiday, too!
