I had such a great weekend. I skipped work Saturday, so Alzy and I attended Dr. Sketchy's anti-art school at the Slipper Room. There were free cupcakes (admittedly, the main draw for us) and a hot pinup model for us to sketch. We had a few drinks to get the creative juices flowing and got off to a good start, but it was hard to feel great about your work when there were amazing artists in the room. Still, it was fun. Afterward we wandered the LES, enjoying the beautiful spring weather, and had huge pink margaritas and hot wings for happy hour. The fabulous mellythepirate joined us with some friends of hers from out of town. We enjoyed the 80's music at the bar and planned our trashy prom-style outfits for SGNY vs. SGNJ karaoke this Friday...there will be wigs involved, and thrift store dresses! I'm sure working through the brutal hangover on Saturday will be worth it (can't call out two Saturdays in a row).
Work has been interesting...I've received a lot of praise lately, which is nice, but it also reminds me that this is such a waste of my time, my brain, everything! Still, it's a job. My best friend just lost his after moving here a year ago and getting married. I must keep at it, at least til I'm done with school in 20 years and can hack it in the real world.
Friday I did a good thing and got tested for everything under the sun. I'm confident nothing's changed since the last time I got tested, but I suppose that's why you have to keep doing it. I always feel relieved after I have it done, even before I get the results. There was a form that asked me if I was "active" with men, women, or both, and when the doctor went over it with me she couldn't quite get that I really did mean both.
I'm pages away from the end of On Beauty by Zadie Smith and I don't want it to end.
Yesterday I listened to the rain, wrote a bit, read a lot, and listened to old Bowie and Depeche Mode. Prettiest Star makes me happy. Blue Dress makes me...happy in a different way.
Oh, and I got the best news! Mellythepirate is coming with me to Atlanta during her spring break! April is going to be a good month, I can tell.
