Last week I saw my very first boxing match ever!
Siamkittie took me to a match between the FDNY and the Dublin Fire Brigade...does it get any better than that? We were on the stage, mere feet away from the grunting, dancing, spit-slinging firefighters, and even hotter, IRISH firefighters. The women were absolutely feral-they went after eachother with more gusto than most of the men. I am officially hooked...it is a sweet, sweet science.
Saturday night I was supposed to meet up with friends, and I was secretly hoping to see the Disco Dolls in Hot Skin in 3-D (starring John Holmes!) but my old roommate vetoed that and dancing at the lesbian club. So, I stayed home Saturday night and met up with him yesterday in Astoria, where I found so many Brazilian shops! I wanted to stop and get a fresh little cheese roll and some Prestigio cookies (they're like Oreos but with coconut cream in the middle), but we had to get down to Tribeca.
We wandered around the neighborhood and grabbed a bite, and then we made our way to the Tribeca Performing Arts Center for a 4 hour presentation on the Zeitgeist movement. My first impulse, when I learned that this was not a screening of the film, was to get out of the building asap and get a cab home. Seriously. However, I realized it wasn't about indoctrination or utopia or any kind of end-all, be-all program, so I stuck around, and I'm glad I did. If you know my personal history you know I have a good reason to avoid a situation like that. The message hit me hard and happened to tie in to themes in the novels I've been reading. Anyway...I'm still gathering my thoughts about the presentation and want to do some further reading. Also, I need to see the movie (parts 1 & 2).
Appropriately, this happens to be my favorite song from 1984 (a seminal year in many respects).![love](https://dz3ixmv6nok8z.cloudfront.net/static/img/emoticons/love.3be5004ff150.gif)
