Why do I meet the best men when I'm trying my best to NOT date anyone? Apparently that's the way life works, and I've just been in denial about it for a while.
School's fabulous. I'm in the middle of what will most likely be the easiest semester of my academic career, which is great because I get to focus on actually enjoying it and making sure I go to class. When I first entered college years ago I developed terrible social anxiety and would have panic attacks when I had to go to class. This semester I've been able to make it to every single class and even though it sounds like a small thing, when you're used to freaking out about it and not being able to get through a semester without giving up, it feels fantastic. I'm making straight A's (as I should be considering the fact I'm not working) and loving my schedule.
My lovely, crazy Brazilian grandmother came back from Brazil and brought me all kinds of neat earrings, exotic-smelling soaps, and old, hard-to-find Caetano Veloso albums. We've been cooking together, which makes me so happy. She's the best.
I had a great time hanging out with one of my favorite boys, Hot_Rod, and his awesome dog recently. We geeked it out and watched lots of episodes of our favorite sci-fi show, he made delicious fish tacos, and I made my special blueberry pie. He loaned me tons of great art books that'll help me with my upcoming project, in addition to the wonderful Maus books by Art Spiegelman that I'd been wanting to read since I first saw them years ago working at a bookstore. I read them in two nights and was impressed, and of course deeply moved. They are truly important works and deserve all of the attention they received.
Brazilian Carnaval is going on....I wish I could go! I'm stuck in Atlanta for a while thanks to school, but I've found out about some great medical volunteer opportunities for the next time I go to Salvador, which will hopefully be this year. Other than that, I'm trying to coordinate a trip to NYC for spring break. We'll see what happens....it's that or Houston & Austin to see family. I might get in way too much trouble in the city.
So, this video is awful. I'm just telling you, it's not something I'm posting because I like it. It just cracks me up-he's in the city my mom's from, tainting my favorite place (Pelourinho-the historic district) with his....oddness. Anyway, enjoy!
