Yesturday I went up to Chicago to the Field Museum to see the exhibit on Pompeii. The exhibit itself was ok, but geared more towards the general public who knew nothing. Even then there were some mistakes made in the exhibit, but nothing that the unknowing people would pick up. And it was insanely crowded. The next time I go up there, which should be sometime in May or June to see the King Tut exhibit, it will not be on the weekend. Nor will I drive it again. A total of 12 hours in a car is just too much in a day. I would have liked to spent more time in Chicago, to see more of the sights, but I went there with the archaeology club from school and some people needed to get back. Despite the driving (the person I rode with was horrible) and the mistakes in the exhibit, I'm glad I saw it. I love the Romans. Seeing the plaster molds and the frescoes was amazing. I can't wait til I can go to Pompeii and see it all in its context.

Been there, it's size and scope is unbelievable, and the fact that it vanished for so long and was forgotten by history is amazing. Dont take a tour though, they rush you to much and you cant even scrape the surface, you'll need a couple of days just to walk the city and get a cursory look at it.
