I have to run out to work (I’m finishing an audiobook job today), but before I go, I wanted to share this gallery of super weird and interesting things I made yesterday using Google’s Deep Dream.

It’s surprisingly satisfying to make these things, and it’s a whole lot of fun to tweak the various settings to figure out what they do.

Weird and cool = 👍

That's certainly different. Good way different, BTW.

I’ve loved magic since I was a little kid — In fact, I still have some of the magic-show-in-a-box sets that my aunt Val gave me when I was growing up — and I always wanted to be a member at the Magic Castle, but I couldn’t, because I wasn’t a real magician. Recently, though, the Castle changed its rules, and started allowing a select...

bedhead20150720 This morning's bedhead was pretty epic.

Lots of work to finish today before I have lots of work this week. I don't feel particularly inspired to write a thing, so here's a list of things that may be relevant to your interests:

I've been making some Not A Radio Free Burritos. This may interest some of you.

Wilco has a new record out and

If you grow that beard and hair a bit more you could easily guest star in Vikings. :)

I've been trying to get myself on a sleep schedule that is consistent with the rest of humanity in my timezone. This isn't easy, because my brain naturally wants to sleep between 2am and 10am, and has been that way pretty much my whole life. But in summer, especially, I like to get up early before it's close to 100°, walk the dogs, and feel...

Holy shit, the title of this blog got me so excited. The Unbearable Lightness of Being is one of my favorite books.

This happens to me every now and then, and I really hate it. The following day usually feels like I'm hungover, but unfortunately without the benefit of being drunk the night before. :/ But there's a thing that helps me falling asleep when my brain starts going into overdrive at night: I once saw an episode of The Mentalist with Simon Baker -a show I really, really like- where he gives advice to a terminally ill man who suffers from Insomnia. He tells him to close his eyes and count his breaths, namely with "one" for breathing in and "two" for breathing out, repeating this until he falls asleep. And please don't laugh, but it works perfectly for me. :)

“Take care of yourselves, watch the people around you carefully, and cordon off the ones who are toxic, so that the universe can decontaminate them for you through exposure and death.”

-Warren Ellis

This is always very good advice (I’ve written some version of it myself at various times), but it’s especially poignant for me to read it from Warren, now, because I’ve just had...

I'm a great fan of Warren Ellis. Often, the things he says are pretty obvious, but he writes them is such a direct way . May I ask where this quote has been taken from?
wilwheaton:
@sabbauth It's from a semi-private newsletter that he sends out once a week.

Yesterday, I got to do something that is so amazing and unexpected, I can’t believe it was real … and I have to keep all the details of it a total secret for a very long time.

That seems to be the story of my life these days. I’m not complaining, but everything I work on has this huge list of NDAs and terrifying agreements...

I'm sure that, once you can spill the beans without threat of monetary Armageddon, it will be quite the tale!

You are not the only person in the world who has anxiety. You are not the only person in the world who has depression. You’re not the only person in the world who has thoughts of self-harm. There are people who want to help you. There are people who have spent their entire lives helping people like you and me and all of the people...

I deal with depression and anger on a daily basis with my daughter who is 16. She was diagnosed last year with a blood disorder that cause her body to swell uncontrollably. She is missing a genetic factor. Almost lost her twice. She cannot be in sunlight, extreme heat, get extremely stressed out. Had to have a port put in b/c her veins are gone in her arms from so many sticks. Horrible way for a 16 year old to live! She has every right to be angry and depressed in my book! Some days she is ok and other days she just does not want to be here anymore. Everyone is this big wide world has depression, some people can't get out of it like others and needs help. Nothing wrong with that!

I’m terrible at mornings. As long as I can remember (and according to my mother, even when I was a baby) I was a nite owl who preferred to go to sleep at 2, and wake up at 10. For whatever reason, that’s the way I’m wired.

When my kids were little and the whole time they were in school, Anne and I took turns...

I came across this fantastic article at The Guardian about RPG books as, well, books (as opposed to game manuals).

“By putting aside simple narrative storytelling and replacing it with detailed description, the RPG offers the total immersion in an imaginary world so valued by geek readers. The elaboration of leading characters, political factions and major historical events is sometimes a very dry exercise in...

I have no interest in playing Eclipse Phase, but love the game universe and keep buying the books just to read.  I think it would be a great MMORPG setting.

I’ve been playing a lot of video games for work (I can’t say exactly what, but I should be able to pretty soon), so in addition to being late to the party on Journey, I’m also late to the party on God of War (I know. I know.).

These games couldn’t be more different, but I loved them both for their own, very different...

I would still be playing The Bard's Tales series and The Eye of the Beholder series if I was able to.  Sooooo many hours of my life were sucked up by them.

For weeks, I’ve been a wreck. The stress dreams were relentless, my appetite was unpredictable, and I got massively sick for the first time in years.

My depression and anxiety have been as bad as they’ve been in months, and it’s been a challenge to get to the end of every day.

This is pretty normal for me when I care deeply about something, and...
