I achieved a new level of geek last night (ding!). I successfully compiled a linux kernel, which in turned fixed a lack of any sound coming out of the speakers.

Well, the Hybrid was sold and I'm now the owner of a much more affordable '04 Kia Spectra. Was their last '04 on the lot, so I got a pretty good deal.
