I like your journal idea. Do you mind if I use it a lil' bit in my own, as usually my liver has it easy, but not lately. Sorry about your Grandmum. Mine passed last year, but I think she's happier now. As for making something of yourself, don't beat yourself up on the 'failure' angle b/c that will just fuck you up.
