Twas a wild and crazy day. Working, running around, trying to keep people from breaking equipment, etc.

Try this one on for size. I think you'll appreciate it -- A motor has a keyed output shaft. Instead of interfacing that directly with the drive geartrain, you add an outer sleeve shaft. That outer shaft is also keyed and slots into the drive. There is about zero end-play in the lashup. Things lock up tight and nothing can move against anything else purely by the motor mounting hardware.

Of course they send me a replacement motor without the outer sleeve motor shaft. No problem, I'll just transfer the other outer shaft. BZZZZZZZZZT!!! Said outer shaft is held on by 2 2mm set screws. I'm good with that as it keeps things from sliding around during install and from slowly eating itself over time from the tiny inherent bit of slop. Now why the @#$W@#$^#$^@#^%^#$% they decided to put green locktite on them is beyond me. They also torqued it down with some drive made of unobtainium.

We heated it up with a heat gun (no torch available) - it won't budge. So the "maintenance stuporvisor", after breaking the 2mm L-key decides to attempt to use an SAE hex key. After he rounds out the first set screw he then proceeds to confirm the wrench really is the wrong one by rounding out the other one.

Did I mention it took almost 3 weeks to get the replacement motor?????????

Yep, that was my birthday. With luck I can get a full weekend and a date to enjoy part of it with me. I'll celebrate then.

Lots of ramen noodles and sandwhiches this week! Actually two of my favorite meals, believe it or not, so it's not so bad. I used my last ten bucks to spring for burgers today though. I've got everything else I need until my next paycheck.

I'd like to do some bow hunting, but I'm years out of practice and I was never that good then. Most of my weakness with a bow I attribute to a lack of upper body strength. I'm working on that.

Here in Alabama you're not likely to be able to see more than fifty yards, even in the dead of winter, so the 25 yard zero works fine. But in all honesty I can't even credit a real kill to myself. Couple of coyotes and rabbits, but those were in the back yard. I just started deer hunting this past season and I didn't have enough time to get out into the woods often enough. Since I've moved the woods are now the back yard, so it's on come November. And I just found a place on my property I can safely do 100 yard shooting, so I'm going to try to set that up next weekend and test that zero at distance. I think I can expect about a three inch drop, which I can deal with hunting. And if memory and the little I know about ballistics is correct, 250 yards will put me about back on zero. Wish I had the space to test it.

Sorry for the long ass comment. I find I'm conversational tonight.

I got home from a business trip late last night...spent a few days in Tyler/Longview/Gilmer, Texas. Different, but very interesting. That east side of Texas is covered in trees, lots of surface water and ponds, some marshes...a complete oposite of when I went to west Texas and saw nothing but flat ground (don't get me wrong, I enjoyed west Texas for other reasons, just not...
