Having hosted 2 trips to the West Coast for my Mom, and prodding her to get a passport & come out here, I can tell you that the unexpected can & DOES happen. Don't look at it as being "stranded" in the local area; instead, take the time to just chill-ax with your mom. How well do you know your local town/village? Maybe it's time to get out there and find out what happens when nobody else is looking. ^_^
I hope your birthday was fun, as it sounds like your vacation so far has been amazing.
Good luck with car repairs. A co-worker of mine has to junk a car he bought about 3 weeks ago because it just DIED on him. At least you're in Germany. If anyone knows how to fix a machine, it's them. Even if it's a Honda!

The fraud department at my bank saw the light and deposited the $1400+ that was stolen and all the overdraft fees that I incurred because of said theft. I now feel like less of a victim.
