Wouldn't it be nice to not have every minute detail of your life pre-planned in advance? School schedules, work schedules, doctor/dentist appointments and now we're planning on adding karate lessons into this crazed mix. Everything has to somehow fit in. Everything pencilled into the master plan.

For instance, we have a BJ planned for tonight. So much for impulsivity. And I have my daily turd...

@chadsss The title alludes to some of my favorite lines in V's book I completed re-reading last night! Weeeee!

Buds, buddettes. Been a while.

Clearly I have my priorities misaligned because I should spend every extra minute on this site instead of doing anything else. ;)

Since I was here last I started and finished Boghossian's A Manual for Creating Atheists. I've only seen his youtube videos prior to this, and I enjoyed them immensely. B has RD's seal of approval, so I...

Anyone else excited for Peter Boghossian's new book A Manual for Creating Atheists?

Don't even joke, you and Freud are not wrong in this case ;P (not by choice though!)

No I do not know that guy in the photo on my blog, though I do wish I had that T-shirt, I would wear it for the entire first month of classes (so maybe I need more than one). I have long argued that we need to do away with the concept that every person needs a college degree, I do not believe everyone does. I certainly know many people who are highly trained, very skilled and amazing at their jobs without a degree. In the case of my nurse students they are paid more for having a degree, but most of what they learn is unrelated to their field. While I am a huge fan of learning for learning's sake. I do not believe in forcing people to learn. It just doesn't work.

Are humans "programmed" to gain the most satisfaction from creation or from destruction?

Because one thing I've learned from children is that they LOVE to destroy. Building/creating things from play-doh, blocks, crayons+paper, is a lot of fun, but nowhere near as fun as it is to dismantle, rip into a zillion teeny pieces, or otherwise tear asunder.

Throwing shelves upon shelves of books onto the...

In response to your question, I believe there can be joy without sadness, but I do not believe one can fully appreciates that joy until they have been forced to experience loss of some sort. It is like adding a hint of cayenne to a chocolate dish, it makes the sweet that much sweeter.

Civilizations rot from within and everything is always looking for an opportunity to wipe the Etch-a-Sketch clean. The more points of view available, even silly or stupid, the better - at least to me. I love weighing options!

Why did we have such crap costumes available to us as children? If we wanted decent Halloween costumes back in the olden days, we were at the mercy of mom's sewing skills. Nowadays, even the cheapest, lamest ass costumes are better than the most expensive shit sold at stores back then.

Does anyone remember the plastic-tablecloth-like costumes with paper mask and tiny elastic to wrap...

I remember my Mom made me a Batman costume that looked like Adam West's, cowl and all. She even made money off it the next year when it was too small for me.
cupcakequeen:
I had a miss piggy costume that basically was a pink sack made out of flammable material and one of those super flimsy masks that you speak of, there wasn't any breathing holes I'm pretty sure I almost suffocated before the night was over.

Photographic evidence of my first time seeing a full rainbow (Oct 13th).

If I had grown up in some glorious flatland, I'd probably have seen hundreds of these by now.

The shitty old saying "So near, and yet so far" has never held more meaning than it does at this surreal moment.

Being approximately 10-15 minutes down the road from the travelling epicenter of unparalleled hotness known as the Blackheart Burlesque, and NOT at In The Venue is a tad dispiriting.

But let's face it, having 3 littles (identical twin boys + tiny lady) =...

I've read 12 of the 13. I won't spoil anything for you, but I may not read the last one after reading the penultimate one. It was a good series all in all though, I hope you are enjoying it.
lokiscoyote:
In answer to your query... There are some good books in the series it starts to tapper off here and there, and the second to last is kind of disappointing. There are parts of the books I like better than the show and part of the show I like better than the books. As far as junk food for the brain reads go, the series is decent. I've heard people say that they think the final book was ghost written, which if true would be very disappointing. I haven't read it yet and not sure I will given what I've heard.

J: "You know what, you need to lower your expectations."

Me: "What do you mean? Settle for less?"

J: "Sort of. If you expect less, you won't be so disappointed."

Me: "What do you think I've been doing for over 10 years?"

J: *eye roll and groan combo*

bagobolts:
I think there is some ratio of effort and expectation. If you just half ass things, don't expect much. If you put in a lot of effort you expect that in return.

Recently I learned:

The secret to having everything is knowing you already do.

It's a bittersweet pill to swallow. On the one hand, it's fucking great to know that we already DO have everything we need, and (reasonably) want. On the other hand, if we already DO have everything, what is there to work towards and dream about?

We already have infinitely more than...

Have you ever noticed that the less they have to say, the louder they feel compelled to say it?

Ooooh, my ears. :(

Far from politics only I noticed that People seem to be convinced that getting loud works better than being right. Shouting is always an indication of the Shouter being in the wrong. ;)

Shakespeare got it right: "Life is a tale, told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing." From Macbeth, and fuck you superstitious thesps.😜😘😘😘

Let's say you've been with someone for over 10 yrs. How much would you expect the other person to become different yet also still remain the same person you fell in love with?

Creatures tend to think of needs and get tunnel vision. Everything changes, which is the ironic constant in existence. It's being able to deal with that that's the rub.

Have you ever judged someone by the books sitting on their shelves? Supposedly you can get at least a tiny inkling of what the person is about by his/her reading material.

Or how about peeking into someone's fridge, and making a snap assessment as to that person's LTR potential?

Scary. Anywho, don't judge me by the (lack of) contents of my fridge.

Supermarket trollies are super instructive. Look at an unattended cart's contents, and try to pick it's owner from the bunch of people looking at the dates on the milk. It's good fun. I used to enjoy dropping packs of condoms surreptitiously into carts pushed by very old people, dropping them into the very centre of their groceries, so they would only appear at the checkout...
