Man, I saw this topic on this blog and figured I'd do the same!
Five songs seems an impossibility, I could easy fill a top 50!
1) Alexisonfire 'Dog's Blood'
I'm fussy when it comes to gigs, especially for bands I love. It's kinda like that whole "never meet your idol" because you'll always be disappointed. I didn't want to see these guys live in Manchester back in 2010. The gig blew me away. They were awesome and they had a new EP out, but I hadn't heard any of them until the night of seeing them live. Dog's Blood killed me.
Even listening to it now is making the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end. For the first 2:20 it's just noise and sound, I can remember feeling it tearing through me, and then it dies down. A slight guitar sound along total silence in the venue, no cheering, just absolute silence. Everyone listening to the drum's slowly kick in and build louder and louder, until Dallas Green starts singing "Howl's heard for miles around, in dog's blood, we will all drown". Then that drop, jesus. The wall of sound just goes fucking mental, and Dallas sings over the top of it all, just perfect clarity over pure controlled rage. It was a perfect song to get rid of any doubts I had about the gig.
2) Girugamesh 'Rei Zero'
I went on vacation to Tokyo in 2013 - This is the song that reminds me of the place. It was one of those holiday's that changed my life, seriously. I'd had two years of just shitty shitness and I started my current job in the November of 2012. My first wage was used to book a holiday to Japan. It was the year I turned 30 and every changed for the better, it's such a good song!
3) Enter Shikari 'mothership'
"and I'll scream in a thousand voices, "I am sane!", "I am sane""
It's just an absolute beast of a record. I'll never, ever, ever get bored of listening to it. There's a dubstep version called 'motherstep' which is equally as beasty, if not more so! I can't remember where I heard this, I just remember falling in love with it instantly, and it's an ever present in any playlist I ever make (along with Motherstep). The last minute of the song <3 fuck!
They're playing in Manchester next month and I'm devastated that I missed out on tickets.
4) Crystal Castles 'Wrath of God'
YES!!!! Honestly, I have nothing but love for this. I love stuff that stands out, catches my attention and yeh, this is definitely one of those songs that I adore. Louder and bassier the better <3 I could listen to this over and over.
5) Die Antwoord 'I Fink U Freeky'
South African Hip Hop. I heard this a couple of years ago and it still has that same effect on me. You might hate it at first but it will grow on you, like a powerful moss.
I love the video, too. I wish I could dance like those guys, they're my idols :D
So yeh, this isn't a definite 'top 5' jesus, I don't think you can condense it down. These are definitely in my top 100, for sure
