Ice Ice Baby

Most of our state has been entombed in a 1/4" thick sheet of ice today. It came sooner than predicted, and I was not exactly well-prepared. After a somewhat humorous struggle I was finally able to get the car door open - right now it's idling with the heater on, slowly melting the ice from all the glass. Freezing rain is still coming down. I'm going to try to make a trip to a store a few blocks away to see what the streets are like. If it's too bad, I might end up working from home tomorrow. All of you in warm-weather climes should thank your lucky stars, and those in cold areas should be thankful you get mostly snow rather than ice. It's been an adventure around here in recent years - global warming has meant that a lot of precipitation that would have been snow here in the past now comes down as various forms of ice. If it gets much worse, we could easily start having widespread power outrages (there have been several ice-related ones in recent years).
