Went to see Cat Power the other night at the Roundhouse in Camden (Camden I must say is a bit of a shithole). The last time I was at the Roundhouse was for the spiral tribe new years shindig which basically I was off my fucking nut at. Some kind hearted soul also put LSD in my drinking water - so the light show along side some incredibly strong ectascy made things go with a swing. The upchuck of the nights events is I got a really bad chest infection and generally felt lousy so going back to old place was a bit of a pilgrimage. Its actually a really good venue they done it up really well and the acoustics are excellent. Ms Power was superb I think she will get even better as time goes on. She did a version of House of the Rising Sun which literally took your breath away. For somebody who suffers terribly from stage fright she seemed very comfortable - conversing with audience. She reminds me of Beth Orton and Cerys Mathews. The person I was with, last saw her with Patti Smith at the South Bank - which I think I went green about. Ms Power still seems to be developing as an artist but she has tremendous talent. And aparently Clive Owen was in the audience with his wife according to Ms Power cos she likes him. The only problem was was there was a change in the weather and it got very cold. They must of spent a lot of money on the venue - basically when I was there last it was a dump and hadn't been opened since the sixties hence the chest infection. Also a highlight of the evening is Ms Power has an absolutely superb backing band. Its the sort of music also that never seems to make its way to Brighton,s Arts Centre. Though I am sure Zoe Ball puts on a good show.

I think that Brighton's tourist office claim used to be, we don't have any sand on our beach.
