i'm back! again! and i'm leaving for Hong Kong on Saturday, then on to Shanghai!
it's a little intense considering i just returned from Asia a little more than two months ago (Indonesia/Bali and Malaysia), but this time it's quasi-business related. although i'm presently unemployed (ah, the contracting lifestyle...) i'm going to a conference in Shanghai where i hope to make some contacts for work and eventually relocation to Asia. right now i'm considering major cities only, with a preference towards HK. i've never been to HK or mainland China.
so, i'll be spending 5 nights on HK in order to get some idea what's going on there and how it grabs me for a place to live for a while. i'll be doing the same in Shanghai, but i'll have the conference there to occupy some of my time. (in case you're curious, it's a software usability conference.) this is the first time i've planned a trip alone in maybe two years. should be interesting.
as usual, i'm open to thoughts and advice on my trip, especially from those that have been to HK and Shanghai. i'm tenatively planning on staying in Chungking Mansions in HK, which supposedly is a bit sketch (read: cheap) and is also the location for Wong Kar Wai's Chungking Express. if you haven't seen that film you should, along with much of his other stuff.
gotta get back to cleaning/organizaing. leaving in less than 48 hours. yikes!
PS i'll love to say hi to a bunch of you now that i'm back (again), but it might have to wait until i get back.
