2) The only pose I've mastered is "Middle-Aged Man Looking Like A Fool."
On another note, it's interesting that your five points so much resemble the honor code that our service academies try to live by: no lying, no cheating, no stealing. Of course the non-violence thing would be a bit of a problem for them.

A Pew Research Center Poll from July 2009 showed that only around 6 percent of U.S. scientists are Republicans; 55 percent are Democrats, 32 percent are independent, and the rest "don't know" their affiliation.
During the Bush administration, Democrats discovered that they could score political points by accusing Bush of being anti-science. In the process, they seem to have convinced themselves that they are the keepers of the Enlightenment spirit, and that those who disagree with them on issues like climate change are fundamentally irrational.
Meanwhile, many Republicans have come to believe that mainstream science is corrupted by ideology and amounts to no more than politics by another name. Attracted to fringe scientists like the small and vocal group of climate skeptics, Republicans appear to be alienated from a mainstream scientific community that by and large doesn't share their political beliefs.
The climate debacle is only the most conspicuous example of these debilitating tendencies, which play out in issues as diverse as nuclear waste disposal, protection of endangered species, and regulation of pharmaceuticals.

I'm interested to see how this plays out over the coming months - my opinions aren't firmed up, and can break either way - but for now believe Assange does what he does mainly free of malicious intent. His professed aim is to bring otherwise hidden information which affects our lives to light, and appears to be doing just that. There was a time when newspapers and broadcast networks did a fair job, but, in my opinion, with progressively less efficacy since the late 1970s.
Wondering if Wikileaks planned financial disclosures have anything to do with derivative markets, automated high-frequency trading (which has been implicated in the May 6th mini-meltdown), or just generally how the finance sector has been running wild for the past two decades.

I disagree. Wikileaks is all good. By saying that they are indiscriminately dumping info and the nonsense about how the info puts people in danger, you are regurgitating lame propaganda. If anything, the problem is that the media and the people are too stupid to make good use of Wikilieaks.
The first is outright false. WL has only released less than 1% of their info, all of which has been carefully selected and released through major journalism sources first. Second, nothing has been released that endangers anyone except the powerful people embarrassed by the leaks. Once again, everything that has been released was checked over with this in mind, and 99%+ of what they have is still unreleased.
I find the traction that these non-arguments got in the media quite depressing. There is almost nothing left of real journalism that pursues truth and challenges authority. And less left of people with critical thinking skills to even notice or care. The owners can now use their media machines to manufacture consent for almost anything.
Here's an interesting new story about how pathetic the media is in relation to wikilieaks. An interesting leak that shows what a bizarre mirror-house of lies goes on in secrecy is picked up by nearly everyone and taken at face value as a story about Cuba, because no one was smart or competent enough to check facts and understand the context:
