Tumor V. Pot. Government Picks Tumor.

WEDNESDAY MARCH 14 2007 3:00 PM

TAGS: marijuana, Bush administration, Angel Raich

Let me start out by saying the federal government, particularly the Justice Department and the current administration, are a bunch of fucking assholes. The pot laws in this country are backwards and have been written by men who cram bottles of whiskey into their fat, white stomachs. Why am I so upset? Because a woman who is dying from scoliosis, a brain tumor, chronic nausea and “other ailments” has just been told by a federal appeals court that she is not immune from prosecution.

Meet Angel Raich, a 41-year-old mother of two from Oakland, California. She is in such bad shape that she needs to smoke pot every couple of hours to ease her pain and encourage her to eat. Her doctor prescribed the marijuana because conventional drugs did not work in “legal” attempts to increase her appetite. Without pot, her appetite was “nonexistent.” Her doctor claims that if she does not smoke pot, she will die.

Raich filed the case because she lives in a state where medical marijuana is legal and she believes that pot “should be allowed if it is the only viable option to keep a patient alive.” Also, her name is ANGEL. How much more fucking obvious does it need to get?

The government claimed it “could not guarantee” that dying people would not be prosecuted for smoking pot. Our government has declared that marijuana has no medical value, even though these guys called “doctors” say the opposite. Eleven states allow medical marijuana for patients with a doctor's recommendation. The attorney general launched a war against marijuana after Bush took office, conducting raids against suppliers who have state licenses and even locking up Tommy Chong.

When Raich heard the decision she began sobbing. She said she would not stop smoking pot.

"I'm sure not going to let them kill me," she said. "Oh my God."

I don't smoke it myself, but I have before and have never understood why the government makes it such a big deal. It's only pot, who fucking cares, if it helps, what's the problem ? How many of those politicians I wonder smoked pot when they were younger ?

because booze is so much healthier then pot...

I'm not saying its not bad for you (pot that is) but if your on your death bed and you feel like your going to puke every 2 hours, why not let them use it. They are dying they don't have much longer they are in pain and discomfort, just leave them alone....

The Supreme Court has already made a recent ruling on medical marijuana in cases of life or death. They, with many apologies to the defendants, chose death.

This is obviously terrifyingly stupid and cruel, but I don't give a shit if someone dying wants to do whatever fucking drug they choose. Pot, booze, coke, heroin: feel free.

just another example of the corporate oligarchy hard at work to dispel any truth to the rumors that something natural might actually help you. it's like chris rock said, it's not that they don't want us to do drugs, they just want us to do THEIR drugs. surreal

yeah i think there should be some sort of law that if youre dying you get to do whatever drug you feel like doing. i know when i get a terminal illness i'm starting my heroin habit right away (and no, i'm NOT being sarcastic)

people who dont want this woman to ease her suffering are stupid pieces of shit. some of the legislators, as well, are also probably getting money from cigarette companies. last time i checked, cigarettes are legal. and did they EVER help ANYONE who was sick or dying? oh wait...they just give people lung cancer and present an enormous drain on our health care system. but hey....POT IS BAD. puke

I'm not even going to reply to this with sarcasm. I'm just going to say it - I don't smoke weed - and even I can see that the marijuana laws in this country are incredibly nearsighted and unnecessary.

The time/manpower/resources used to fight (and perpetuate) the marijuana portion of the drug war could be far better spent on - well, pretty much anything else.

Pot should have been legalized with alcohol at the end of prohibition.

I feel Pot laws should be, at the very least, equated to Alcohol laws. Pot is not addicting, or simply LESS so than Alcohol. Pot can influence your preception, so driving should not happen, like with Alcohol. Im not up to speed on any long term damage that Pot can cause on the human body, like with Cigarettes and Alchohol, and those are legal.

Banning Pot was a pure political desicion. It should be overturned and the distribution of Pot regulated like with tobacco and Alcohol

yes it should be legalized, taxed and distributed by the government. you should be able to go into a speedway and get a pack of "marlboro greens." we could use that money to, i dunno, fund education. or healthcare for the poor. or erase the national deficit. or pay for this stupid war.

Damn straight!
I commend those who's last wish is to test the edge of the law. In the end, there is only law you must obey. Things fall down, not up.

Drugs should not be used to fund anything. The moment you allow it to be a viable source of income you give the government a reason to get and keep people addicted. I will use an example of another good idea gone bad.

Speeding tickets, they are a hidden form of taxes since you can pull anyone over and say they are speeding and the system is set up so that it's near impossible to prove you were not police and government are seeing it as a valid way to raise revenue. I got a 400 dollar ticket for going 85 in a 55, never mind you that I was in the middle of traffic I was simply the one who got picked out and they don't use a radar gun anymore here they use a laser which does not give you anything to show your actual speed. smile

Anyhow you just wait and see how addictive pot becomes when the gov can use it as a source of income.
