World Naked Bike Ride Day (aka "Critical Ass")

Seattle, Olympia, and Bellingham are among 22 cities that will celebrate World Naked Bike Ride Day to promote the end of U.S. oil dependence. Seattle police will allow the ride to occur as, "from a legal standpoint, being nude is not considered obscene behavior".

"Why is the world so afraid of naked people?" Conrad Schmidt, organizer of the event, asked. "There is nothing more peaceful than a naked person on a bicycle. We are more afraid of naked people than we are of cars and global warming and nuclear missiles. Nobody worries about these things, but people are worried about naked cyclists."

sure, they can be naked, but they'd better be wearing helmets.

Because cycling naked people are--frankly--a bit disgusting. The chaffing. The sweating. The flying body parts as the wind brushes the dirt up against them. Not to mention if someone takes a spill, they will have a skinned everything and then some.

Almost sympathize with the concept, but it seems like more good intentions gone haywire.

I'd like to see someone come and knock over a bunch of them while they ride. Imagine the road rash they'll get.

It's things like this that are so self defeating.

Actually... that happened a few years ago, if my memory serves me correctly. During the solstice pradade, which kicks off the Fremont Fair, there've always been nude cyclists that "streak" the parade. On this particular year, there'd been complaints leading up to it about the previous year's cyclists... so the cops were on the lookout. And, sure enough, they streak the parade... and as the stories have it... the cops jumped out in front of them and ended up "causing" a crash that resulted in numerous injuries.

And so the story goes. whatever

that reminds me of the old joke where there's an ad in the paper:

women's bicycle seats: $10 new, $30 used.

Actually, now that I read this again, that quote reminds me of the nudist from Pressing The Issues with Maurice Chavez on Vice City Public Radio.
