What's Zo Wearing? January 14, 2007

Secret Photoshop Agent and resident Fashion Icon Zoetica often has the staff at SGHQ asking, "What's Zo Wearing?" Her unique and eccentric style is a rallying call to those who suffer from mainstream malaise. Each week, she tells us how she's combined ordinary items to create her extraordinary look. Undaunted by unusual combinations, "What's Zo Wearing" is SG's answer to middle-of-the-road makeover shows.

Zo says: Perhaps this isn't the most practical of outfits, but it is, in fact, what I was wearing last Sunday. Nor am I always necessarily practical (to my, albeit hazy, recollection). I had never posed for a figure drawing class until then.

When Miss Kat Bardot asked me to model for the LA branch of Dr. Sketchy's Anti-Art School, I had no choice but to accept. I adore getting dressed up far too much, and besides—where better to try out my first pair of pasties than in an environment where art, burlesque and booze casually mingle and make Sundays a little less lazy for artists and spectators alike? Nothing quite like a good corset to temporarily ward off jetlag! No, I couldn't refuse. Thus, despite having just gotten home after a 27 hour airplane adventure and being half-dead, I did it. Sure, I swayed a little in my spike-heeled boots and was nearly seduced by the Sandman during the 30 minute pose, but no one seemed to mind and I haven't received any death threats from Kat yet.

Mysteriously, few seemed to photograph the fluffy skirt concoction I wore that fateful night! Alas. I leave you with this: such outfits ought to be worn to the opera, laundromat and family restaurants alike. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise!

Custom hat and pasties—by Kat Bardot—contact Kat for prices.
Skirts [layered]—$15 each at the amazing $15 dollar store on Santa Monica Promenade.
Corset and ruffle bra—Versatile Fashions.
Ruffle undies—$9.99 Playmates of Hollywood.
Velvet boots—$15 on sale at Aldo.

Zoetica Ebb is a painter, SG style technician, make up artist, alt. model, photgrapher & occasional cosmonomad. Born in Moscow, Russia, she was raised by a troup of gypsy scientists from space, who coldly sold her to an American technological research facility in 1992. After a daring escape, she graduated from the LA County High School for the Arts, retreated into the rumored underground atelier where she studied with the much-revered fashion guru Madame Von Kuntzertag, followed by a brief stint at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She's traveled the world, gathering fashion expertise and is thrice certified as official Finesse Monitor to the Khan throne. My roomate is watching devil wears prada and there's not an outfit in that movie as hot as this. Actually, none of the clothes on that movie are anything compared to yours, but whatever.

I'm torn between complimenting your hotness in that outfit & mentioning that you look like you came off the set of Moulin Rouge biggrin ( not that there's anything wrong with that ) . The corset / bra is a little too ruffled for my taste , but other then that one little thing I like the outfit a lot .

Lovely! Everything you put on works so well! This column is always a treat.

Nonetheless, I can't help but wonder if there will ever be a Sunday morning that begins with "What's Zo NOT wearing?"

I am sick of being teased by you Miss Zoetica. It's frightfully unfair for you to flaunt your beauty on this site without being as naked as the rest of us.

There I said it.

I went into a value villiage tuesday before a job interview and assembled a three piece suit for twelve bucks that was far and away sharper than any I spotted later that day while making my way through downtown portland to the interview.

some people earn the disgust and envy of their peers by bragging about how expensive their clothes are. I earn the disgust and envy of my peers by braggin about how cheap my clothes are. also, I sleep easy knowing that in no way am I supporting sweatshop labor.
