I went to a small Oklahoma town this weekend for a Welcome Home party. My cousin is a Marine and just returned from Afghanistan. We started drinking pretty early in the day while food was on the smoker and everyone was sitting around shootin the breeze and having a good time. My crew finally decided to head back to the motel but one of my cousins and I weren't done drinking. We sat on the sidewalk and had a couple more beers, as a cop pulled someone over in front of us. My cousin and I did a play-by-play and heckled the cops a bit. The cop apparently didn't think it was as funny as we did because he let the driver go and pulled into our parking lot. Three more cop cars showed up and had all their lights on the 2 young men sitting on the sidewalk heckling them. One cop got out and started flippin us a bunch of shit about the dangers of messing with cops while they work. I couldn't stop laughing at this guy. I know a lot of cops and have decided that most are cops because the want to do the right thing and serve and all that stuff. The other, smaller group are cops because they have had a bad childhood or was picked on or something. These guys act like everyone that jaywalks, tosses a cigarette butt, or any other minor infraction needs to be punished to the fullest extent of the law. They are fucking absurd. My cousin and I were being obnoxious, we had been drinking, and I'm not going to say we were being angels in any way shape or form...but for this self righteous prick to come and act as if we were hard ass criminals was stupid. Deserve the ticket for "drinking in public"? Yes. Did our actions require 4 patrol cars and the felony style approach? No. I didn't really help the situation by not being able to stop laughing at the cop. I tried hard but even while looking straight down at the ground the guy knew that I couldn't take him serious. Long boring story, but last night it was funny as shit, and now I have to pay a fine in Oklahoma. If anyone took the time to read this, let it be known that I will not reimburse for the time you have wasted.
