...it wasn't that long ago when you'd hear people wondering why they should go to a theatre when they can download it, stream it, or "find better on TV"
( the latter of which I never agreed with - even a poor film, in my opinion, tends to theatrically outshine nigh any TV show or TV film by leagues )
BUT one only has to turn on the media to see the droves in line and preparing for the latest Star Wars installment
or to hear the excitement - and outrage - from seeing the trailers for the multitude of films on the horizon
( the latest Star Trek trailer being a prime example of the positive-negative feedback from just a single teaser )
...'course, as much as I love cinema - and absolutely adore seeing films in theatres - it's not worth the 3hr walk to the nearest showing, particularly in the wintertide chills *shivers*
nope - I'm excited BUT I can wait until they're released on DVD/BluRay :)
so what's led to this sudden theatrical resurgance amongst the people ?
hells - it could be any number of things... or combinations thereof
while the economy hasn't "bettered," no matter what N0bama tries to b.s. the populace, the disgruntled are (finally) leaving their homes and entering the hallowed halls
honestly, sometimes what people need when the economy is at its worst is an escape - and what better place to escape than those stunning visual worlds ?
there's also the reminiscant dwellings as known series return to the silver screen - and hope, in the case of Star Wars, that it is utterly unlike the prequel abominations that've haunted us for too long
the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) films continue to pull in even the most unlikely of crowds...
a couple of their latest installments - Guardians Of The Galaxy and Ant-Man brought in people who previously had no care for the comic-book properties, as word of mouth of these wonderful films spread
( "they're no longer just for geeks anymore" )
of course, this has led to the promise and hope of pulling in more eclectic crowds as the installments continue ( don't let us down, Marvel! )
couple this with the MCU TV Series' that have been overall outstanding - pulling more people into this wide world they've created
the X-Men films had a short-term lull with less-than-satisfactory attempts ( though I admit I enjoyed even the "poor" ones )
...but the latest films have returned to enjoyable form - surpassing their predecessors at points - and are pulling the patrons in once again
and that's only touching on a few possible reasons - and series - that are rising the Hollywood Star again...
I've heard people say that cinema "has finally gotten better" - but I think that's a poor and inaccurate statement
there's always been good cinema... but people have to get out there to check it out... diamonds can be found amongst the trash
( but then again, these are the same people who liked the godsawful like Forrest Gump and Blair Witch Project and could actually stay awake through Dances With Wolves and the last Star Wars prequel )
ANYways - as a cinema lover and theatre patron, I'm glad to see this resurgance... and hope to the 7 hells it stays!
...the death of the theatre would be the worst thing that could ever happen to this nation - and this world
*shivers in fear at the thought*
it's Saturnalia tomorrow, so enjoy, my lovelies and gentlefolk!
and if you make it out to a theatre in the next few weeks... enjoy the hells out of it! :D
