I'm gonna teach you guys how to sketch, color, and detail a character concept! (I am terrible at teaching ^-^')
step 1: Sketch out basic shapes. As you can see I used simple circles for the round parts of this character's body. The sketching is in a gesture style meaning is was a quick, fast paced sketch. After you get the basic shape of the character (pose and all) you can go in and add the detailed parts like I did with the face and hands.
Step 2: Add more detail! Surely there is more to the character design that what we already have! I always find that using different colors in a detailed sketch help point out which part goes where so that when I outline later, I won't miss out on every detail. Step 3: Add a rough background sketch (if you want a background), you want to go ahead and sketch it out next before you do any outlining or coloring!
Step 4: If you want it to look more realistic, I suggest going with a hard airbrush for the outline so that it blends in well with the hair and skin color. Using the airbrush and blending tools helps a great deal later when you want to go in and add shine and shading.
Step 5: Once you get the hang of doing a airbrushed outline and color, you can go in and begin adding shade for the darker parts of that character's whole profile. It really starts coming together when you start adding shade and lighting like so ~
Step 6: Don't rush it! Have fun with it! Practice makes perfect! I hope this was an ok tutorial! Haha, I am terrible at teaching things!
