Prom weekend recap... sorry it's so fucking long, it was a great adventure and I want to share. Prom Weekend, Volume 1
The weekend started on Thursday for me. Pixxie ended up not being able to come with me to the BPM party, so I opted to spend time in the studio with the co-host for a few hours. It was pretty productive, we made some real progress on a couple of the songs. Time ran away from me a bit, and next thing I know it's approaching midnight. In no time I was strolling up to the Mayan, where Junkie XL was playing a fantastic set. After a few minutes I ran into a couple friends, then spotted digitusboy and then Seether and a couple other friends. After the place closed, we stood around and talked a bit, contemplating whether or not to kick things into after-party mode. While I had taken Friday off work, others had to get up early so I opted to head home and work on some music. I did more fucking around on the internet than I did working on music, but after the productivity from earlier in the night I won't complain. Crashed out aroun 5ish.
Friday was spent being a bit lazy in the morning. Procrastinated for a good hour or two bouncing emails back and forth with Fractal, trying to figure out plans for the weekend (who will bring the shovels, who will get the lye). Favorite exchange of the morning... "Call me if something awful happens" "Well of course, how else will you know there are bodies to bury?" I already knew this, but word of caution to you - don't mess with Fractal lol.
Left for Santa Barbara later than I expected, and enjoyed all sorts of traffic (fortunately I had tunes). The plan was to grab dinner and then hang out with Fractal until Seether and his crew made it into town, then go check out the Clan Destino 'Wizard Of Odd' party (think Cirque De Soleil, but edgier). No word from those guys, so I eventually wandered over on my own. Made it just in time to catch one of torque's awesome performances (she's an amazing fire dancer, as are the other members of the troupe).
As closing time approached, we decided that of course we had to check out the after party. Helped clean things up a bit, then ran into XLRant and rode with him to the shindig. On our way in, we discovered a motor home full of friends of his and had a few more drinks (in my case that would be shots of vodka). Great afterparty - highlight/missed photo opportunity of the party for me.... FIRE BREATHING TRILO!!!!! Be very afraid, seriously. I'll have to do this again, and get some cameras rolling next time.
Dawn eventually rolls around. I think something in the neighborhood of a hundred text messages and drunken phone calls have been exchanged with people I know. Genius. We crash out over at XLRant's place. Next thing I know, the phone's ringing. It's 8:30am. It's Fractal (you may recall that we were due to crash at her place, and that we were due to leave at 9am). I tell her I'll go find torque, and we'll be right over. I wander through the house, doors are closed, and suddenly it occurs to me that there may be roommates, and who knows what these people might be up to. So I fell back asleep, despite my intentions. I wake up in a panic at 11am (you know that wake up gasping because you know you're horribly horribly late?). Seconds later - the phone rings. It's Fractal. I panic and put the phone under the pillow and run out of the room (as if that would make it better lol). At this point all thoughts of roommates and waking people or disturbing the peace are gone.... "Torque! Oh, Torque! We're going to die soon! Fractal's going to murder us, and bury us in her yard!"
After waking up a number of people and retrieving my phone, we're on our way. A few minutes later, we're at Fractal's and loading the car as quickly as we can, and finally on the road (after making the required convenience store pit stop).
Dear 101, please be our bitch.... A word about torque's car. She drives one of those Scion things. Despite the boxy shape, it gets great gas mileage and is somehow much bigger inside than it is on the outside. And it seems to get roomier every time I get in it. Who knew you could get cars with other dimensions as a feature. Either way, I'm a fan (though the radio could have done with more speakers in the back). For me the ride was a massive jumble of hilarious conversations, finally getting something to eat, text messaging countless people, cell phone calls, and oh yeah, passing the fuck out. Random question - why can I get a signal in Dirtwater, California but not in my apartment in the middle of the LA metro area? Moving along, the 101 was indeed our bitch and we encountered fairly little traffic as we sped north along the coast. As we got close to SF, we finally heard from Seether and his group - due to hilarious circumstances completely within their control, they never made it out of LA on Friday night - they were another hour behind us).
Random things from the journey... there are bells on the side of the road every couple miles on the 101 - we have no idea why.... If you give Fractal bottles of sugar, she'll eventually start making animal noises... According to a sign etched into the side of a mountain in the SF area, South San Francisco is the Industry City - if nothing else, carving your sign into the side of a fucking mountain is pretty industrious - we thought they should carve facts about every town into the sides of mountains.... There is a plumber in this industrious little suburb whose sign consists of a truck on a stick. Yup, you heard me. One of the plumber's trucks with the company name and number and stuff... on a stick (well, a pole, but you get the idea) - we decided that it would be funnier if it were covered in corn batter and deep-fried....
With that, we arrived in San Francisco. So endeth Volume 1. Thanks to those of you who stuck it out this far, Volume 2 will follow soon. I'll get pictures posted tonight.

Clan Destino's event looked like a great fucking time... glad I got to meet you at Prom, even if it was just for a minute. I have a hard time staying still at a bar...

I'm almost thinking that I would like to go hunting now. My slave used to go bow hunting. Perhaps I'll get him to teach me.
