This is a tale of two kitties. More specifically, it's a tale of two books about kitties. More than kitties though, these are tales of loyalty, redemption and the healing power of love. As a personal note, these books are part of my permanent library, which means they will never be sold under any circumstances.

The books are "Homer's Odyssey" subtitled "A Fearless Feline Tale or How I Learned About Love and Life with a Blind Wonder Cat", by Gwen Cooper, and 'Dewey, The Small Town Library Cat Who Touched the World"., by Vicki Myron with Bret Witter. I will borrow somewhat liberally from parts of the book and will try to attribute accordingly..

Gwen Cooper didn't need nor particularly want, another kitten. But when her veterinarian called with a story about a three week old eyeless kitten that had been abandoned. It was love at first sight (Homer's eyes had to be removed at two weeks of age due to illness). They said he would be an underachiever "never as playful or independent as other cats". But he's grown into a "three pound daredevil with a giant heart who eagerly made friends with every human that crossed his path. He scaled seven-foot bookcases with ease and leapt five feet i the air to catch flies in mid-buzz".

Along the way, he managed to repair the author's broken heart, damaged by a painful break-up. As of the publication of this book, the author and her husband and their THREE kitties live in Manhattan. Read this odyssey of this wonder cat, and believe in the power of love.

Dewey was a tiny kitten that was abandoned in the book drop of the public library on the coldest night of the year in Spencer, Iowa. He was "able to transform a small library, save a classic American town and eventually become famous around the world." He was Dewey Readmore Books, the library cat of Spencer, Iowa,

I must admit that when I pick up a book about animals, I tend to page through the book trying to get a clue how it turns out. I'm not ashamed that the first time I picked up "Dewey" I did that I'm also not ashamed to admit that I cried like a baby in the middle of the bookstore. This book will make you laugh and make you cry. It will, I promise, touch your heart.

I can't recommend these books highly enough. But get your own copies. I've got mine.
