Oh-dessa. I'm back after a week roaming around scotland and denmark doing fuck-all. now i'm back on-line and back at it (whatever it is). day one of the new and improved grind is odessa -- one of my favorite cities.
i am just realizing that i go to cool places for work and shitty places for vacation. work -- ukraine. vacation -- denmark. work -- bangladesh. vacation -- new york. ok never mind; i think the example broke with bangladesh.....
odessa actually has a strange place in my life. i haven't been here in more than 10 years, but when i was in college i came here once for new years. a friend of mine and i took the train here from paris, which took like 24 hours or something like that. we met some cool smuggler-type dudes and their friends, and hung out with them for a week. they didn't speak english at all so pretty much all communications was through drawings. after a day or so i starting hanging out with this girl Tatyana, and we would walk around for hours not saying a damn thing but holding hands and doing goofy romantic teenager stuff. not once did we say a word to each other.
on the last day we got on the train, and as i said goodbye she handed me a note that said, in english, "i love you. come back to me." by the time i read it the train was already gone.....
that's a true story, but my ukranian friends hear this story and say "yeah, she's a grandma by now -- if she is out of prison....." thanks a LOT.
anyway, that's enough romantic bullshit. one day here and its off to kyiv. any recommendations for tattoo spots in kyiv -- after all it is independence day weekend!
