It's nearly the best day of the year. The day we celebrate the rise of chocolate. Right after which comes the rock bottom prices of oddly shaped chocolate. Now all I need are irish cream filled chocolates and I'll be all set.

they come only second to those involving spring break and cancoon !

word. I myself just bought some of those huge chocolate eggs with the two colour creamy filling, heavily discounted. Valentine's day also good for that kind of thing.

Feeling either exhausted or depressed. I'm not really sure which is the symptom and which is the cause. I seem to be having more and more trouble dragging my ass out of bed to go to the job every morning. The worst part is that I think I'm neglecting my little friend, both completely unintentionally and completely without cause.
At least they have finally set...

I respond to those surveys about half the time, though whenever possible, anonymously.

What's a non-talking project?

Finally, a decent snowfall in this forsaken city. It's a shame it came so late in the year. I ronically, it came the week after city council started trying to figure out what they were going to do with the snow clearing surplus. Of course, you wouldn't know they actually do any snow clearing if you've ever been here.

The problem with the west is not that it gets so cold, but that it is too cold for too long. I found winters out there were OK, but around the end of February it should be getting to seven or eight degrees, I feel.

And what's really interesting is that a favoured tactic of the so-called left is to accuse conservatives of beliefs and policy they don't (officially) espouse, while the favoured tactic of the right is to reject ideas based on their soure alone, not their merit.
dholokov:
even if that were true, you have to separate support for troops from discussion of the mission.

If you can't do the job if people are making legitimate criticism of the mission while still making clear they hope the best for the soldiers. then you can't do the job and shouldn't be in uniform. End of story.

How about that? We actually have a PM who stands behind our troops, even though the decision to send them was the previous government's. I know many people on that mission, so it's nice to see the PM supporting our people.

dholokov:
No Canadian leader could justly be accused of not supporting the troops. The Conservatives haven't yet descended into "crticize policy, and you critizice the troops" yet, but it could easily happen, which won't be good for their support nationwide. They probably should do what the opposition asks and allow some sort of debate in the House of Commons about the extent and nature of Canada's role in Afghanistan. If they do well in it without restoring to jingoism, they could even benefit from it.

We now have a cabinet with the brains and experience to actually get things done. I find it most amusing that we now have a retired Brig Gen running DND and all the LWPs can come up with is that he was a lobbyist. Why is anyone complaining that he knows the department from both inside and out? Imagine the Liberals putting someone in DND...

I knew you had to be playing devil's advocate on that one; it was just too dumb.

This is very very strange. It turns out the sky has not, in fact, fallen.
The only good thing to come out of this election is that the Cabinet won't have any representation from Toronto. Awww.

Thats what think also.
not the worst outcome.
noctua:
Heh. Well, I see it this way:

1) Toronto (and the GTA in general) didn't elect any Conservative MPs... and if you believe that the Cabinet should consist only of elected members of the party, then Toronto voters have only themselves to blame.

2) Or, you think that having non-elected officials deciding public policy is a good thing, then in theory, Harper could put a Torontonian into the Cabinet.

Rock, meet hard place.

In a way, it sucks. As a Torontonian (or a former one, at any rate), Toronto is pretty much pumped as a cash cow. It gets ignored for infrastructure projects when it really could use some money to help things like the TTC.

However, my position is that Torontonians need to step up to the microphone and speak up -- and vote for candidates who will speak up for them.

They didn't do that. They keep not doing it.

A new government is, thankfully, around the corner, or the weekend as it happens. Hopefully, we will have a majority Conservative government that has representation from all the provinces and has the backbone to simply turn a blind eye to the BQ. Better still would be charging all the new BQ MPs with treason as they leave the chamber after being sworn in. I wonder...

y'know, RE: Andvari's journal, I don't think its possible to kick a single riding out of confederation. Certainly the federal government alone couldn't do it.

Long time since the last update. It's been two months of 130 work hrs/ two weeks, which probably explains why I've been all but absent around here.
Since the last update, I've managed to pay for tickets from Winterpeg to Demonton for my two monsters in July. It will be their first visit to see me in about three years. I probably would never have...

Holloween was a bust. Everyone was so freaked out that I was wearing a white shirt that no one recognized the costume, despite the frequent name changes as I went to different groups. Add to that the 13.25 hour work day and the thing was not pleasant at all.
