Thanks all! I have returned from PA, and I'm happy to report that my mom is recovering steadily. I spent much of the time cooking and fixing things around the house... which is, ya know, pretty standard for me these days, anyway. While I wouldn't call this past week and a half a "vacation", by any definition, it did seem to recharge my brain a...

Thanks! I'm pretty excited about the place. You are welcome to visit my ceilings anytime! smile If I ever get a camera I will try to take decent pictures of the place. I'm so jonesing to set it up.

Well, I have to give that bastard some credit. He managed to spin his way out of being called an utter ass and con-artist. Not that anyone with a semi-sane mind couldn't figure out what he's all about.
But, I did like the whole. "Jesus is just giving us more time to be gathered." Then when asked if he'd return all the money people gave him (Including those that gave Everything) "No, we won't give it back, there is much to do with all that money."

Brass, total brass.. I sit back and wonder, how this man and his organization isn't behind bars. =/

Didn't want to post this until we were sure, but it looks like my mother will need surgery to repair or replace her mitral valve. As these things go, this is not as grave as say, a triple bypass, but yes, it's still heart surgery.

Spoke with my siblings, and it looks like I will be heading east to be there for the recuperation process....

I wish you good luck on both accounts. Her health and your travel. It does seem like a different world at times. When you're so far away from family.

Well I was going to Wondercon today. But now I'm working. Well, actually I'm on SG when I should be working, but fuckit, the site was down so long I forgot what it looked like.

Besides which, I've already purchased by body weight in graphic novels this weekend, I have to stop sometime.

At least being intentionally luxurious between slogs of work can be ever so much fun. You can also find ways to be inappropriate at work - a few everyday acts of resistance perk a work day nicely.

Some days, I feel like I know what I'm doing in the new position. Other days, I wonder when they will all turn to me and say, "Wait, you don't know what the fuck you're talking about, do you?" Compared to all this, working on the house is pure bliss.

I have nothing of significance to say, really, I'm just tired of looking at the...

Indeed! Plus, they come when you snap, whistle or call their name a certain way. If only I enjoyed that much success in every endeavor. shocked

actually, I got a textured teardrop shape... NO MASSAGING ALLOWED. It could rotate the implant and cause badness. So I just poke and wait till I can self grope. =p

Finally, finally moved into the new place. We made the last trips and turned in the keys with a only a few hours to spare. Now begins the long, long process of setting all this stuff in some semblance of order. After my internet access is restored, of course. Priorities.

So to add to my Really Very Eventful December, I'm getting a promotion. Yes, it's quite a step up in base pay, and yes, I'm happy (if a little terrified.) But also, this is one of those "You are in command now, Admiral Piett" promotions, which makes me a bit uneasy. The previous occupant of the position wasn't on board with the company's office move,...

One year, several dozen houses viewed, five deals that fell through, and innumerable forms later: I are homeowner.

This is going to be a weird holiday. There's more work to be done before we move in, of course, but packing needs to be done at the same time. I think my Christmas tree will take the form of stacked boxes this year.

The repair work is, against all expectations, going according to schedule. It looks like (knock knock) we might actually make the closing date (for those not familiar, extending past the scheduled close of escrow means big nasty fees.) I can take credit for about 10% of that; I've spent a good amount of time this week clearing brush and other crap from work areas, painting,...

Well, now the fun begins. The repairs have been approved by all parties. Now comes the writing of massive checks, daily check-ins with the contractor, DIY repair work on the weekends, and very, very little rest.

I have to agree with the SAD thing. How frisky can you feel when it is pitch dark at 5:30? Presuming, of course, one lives a life that happens primarly during daylight hours, which I am sad to say I do these days.

Thanks for the encouragement! I think to last we are going to have to open up, at least because of me, but that conversation is happening s.l.o.w.l.y. over time. I'm terribly fond of immediate gratification, so now is the time for me to settle it on down.

So close, so very close. But the seller is arguing over what needs to/can be repaired before closing. The "seller" being a bank asset manager in another fucking state.

Oh, in other more directly shitty news, my company announced they will be moving the office to Newark - Newark, CA, that is - in June of next year. No, we're not canceling the deal on...
