Well, in just over a week I'll be in Haiti as part of a delegation from my union (well, actually in Toronto FIRST, then Haiti). I'm a little bit terrified, I'm not going to lie. I'm not so much in fear of Haiti, rather I'm terrified of airports. I love traveling, I just hate surrendering my autonomy to some soulless airline. You have to be on time to things (I hate being on time to things) or else they just fuck you. Except for other times when they fuck you even when you ARE on time. The bastards. Have you ever noticed that once you go through security at one airport it's hard to get out of that "security bubble" until you get to your destination? This makes life hard on people like me who need cigarettes to go with all of the booze they drink when they fly to keep themselves from getting claustrophobic on the plane. Also there's the biot where I have a total of nine flights before I get back to Anchorage which is a lot of opportunities for my luggage to be lost. I'm not looking forward to any of that even one little bit.
The being in Haiti part will be great. Social upheaval, corrupt governments, and meeting with leaders of leftist labor unions, what could be better?
