9 days before Brooklyn and I shot this set with my Buell Lightning Long XB12Ss, Harley-Davidson made the unexpected announcement that it was discontinuing Buell Motorcycles (owned by H-D). In a somber video, Erik Buell (founder of the company) confirmed the news, and said, "I have had the great fortune to meet and get to know many Buell riders over the years, and they are an amazing and interesting group of free thinkers."
I myself shared over 4,000 glorious miles with a Buell Blast, the company's smallest but best-selling model. It was the first bike that ever really "fit" me. It was the first bike I locked the rear wheel on, wrecked at an intersection, picked up, and rode all the way home with a broken shift lever and right wrist--without shedding a tear. It was the first bike that taught me just how tough I really am.
I hope that in some small way, this set will serve as a celebration of, thank you, and farewell to, the "little American sportbike company" that gave so many of us, such an unforgettable ride.
