so all politicked out, so decided to watch "Chopped" on Food Network instead. this episode had 4 competitors that were previously "chopped" (aka, they did not win). one of those competitors on the episode is Lance Nitahara, a chef from the Adirondack region of New York.
phenomenal chef, doing amazing things...he lost the first time he was on to another amazing chef. I remember the one judge going "Why are you working in a small restaurant in the Adirondacks instead of running a top scale restaurant in New York City?" a very humble, religious man.
in his second change, one of his competitors (Yoanne Magris) was trying to win to see her grandmother in France who was very ill. in the second round of competition (there is an appetizer round, entree round, and dessert round), she burned herself (running, spilling a pot with boiling water on her legs....she ended up with 2nd degree burns on both legs) and continued, making it to the dessert round against Lance.
they're talking, he told her straight out he thought she should win. she told him how they both are winners. as he put it, it was not about the outcome but about the journey.
the final result...Lance wins (winning $10,000) and Yoanne was "chopped", losing again. she fought long and hard, and was told it was quite simply a "molecule" of a difference.
