So... got the pic of your friend's tattoo... it's nice!! But, my god, I just don't have that kind of money, right now. But... I soooo want to get started on this tattoo with every inch of my being. Maybe I can just get the outline started? It seems silly to get it started if I don't know when I'll be able to complete it. What do you think? Take more pics when he gets more work done. And... have you checked out the SG thing yet... where you can upload your pics from a cell phone?
If you go to your "pics" folder and click on the link for "tip"... this info pops up:
16. CAMERA PHONE / WIRELESS / MOBLOG QUESTIONS
16.01 Can I upload pics or update my journal from my camera phone?
You can! You can either upload pics directly into a folder on SG, update your journal, or update your journal and embed pics from your phone. It's really easy to set up.
(1) First, go into your preferences and scroll down for "SECRET WORD FOR PHONE CAM". After you set your secret word, it will return two email addresses for you to use. They'll look something like this:
(2) Enter these two email addresses into your phone's address book, so you won't have to remember them or type them in by hand every time.
Here's what you can do once it's set up:
To upload pics to your own folder on SG, send the pics from your phone to your "UPLOAD PICS" email address.
To upload pics and post them to your SG journal, send the pics from your phone to your "UPDATE JOURNAL" email address. Any text you include will be posted to your journal.
To simply update your journal with no pics, just send a text message to your "UPDATE JOURNAL" email address.
To find your pics, go into your pics tab on your profile page, and look for a folder called "PHONE CAM PICS".
16.02 Which phones are supported?
Any phone with a camera that supports sending pics is supported. So, pretty much every camera phone that's on the market. As long as your phone gives you the option to send pics to an email address, it will work with SG. We've had good luck with Nokia, Ericsson, the Sidekick, and Motorola. Other phones should work just as well. Please report any problems with compatibility to s5, and he'll have a look.
16.03 Which wireless carriers are supported?
We've tested out every major wireless carrier in the US: AT&T Wireless, Cingular, Verizon, T-Mobile, and Sprint. If you are outside of the US or if your carrier isn't listed here, any GSM or CDMA carrier will be fine. Please report any problems with compatibility to s5, and he'll have a look.
16.04 What the hell is SMS? MMS? Gah, I'm so confused about all the funny letters!
Okay, take a deep breath. SMS is "short message service". SMS is text-only messaging from your phone. MMS is "multimedia messaging service". MMS is what phones use to send photos, sound, text, etc - you know, multimedia.
If you send us a plain old SMS, it's text-only. So an SMS will only update your journal with text. If you send us an MMS, you can send us multiple pictures and text.
16.05 Should I choose "send as email" or "send as MMS"?
Either.
16.06 My phone doesn't say anything about MMS. What should I do?
Even easier. Your phone will just ask you for an email address. Use one of the email addresses you already set up.
16.07 How can I send multiple images or embed multiple images in a single journal entry?
It depends on the phone. If your phone uses MMS, create a new message, add a photo, and write some text. To add more pics, look for an option that says something like "add new page". On the new page, you can add another image and more text. For each image and block of text, you need to add a new page.
If your phone uses regular email instead of MMS, create a new message, and attach your images.
NOTE TO SPRINT USERS: Due to limitations in their system, you can only send us one image at a time.
16.08 Should I set the "Subject" line to anything?
If you want. You'll see it as the image's caption when you open up your phone cam pics folder.
16.09 How do I upload pics to a photo album?
To upload pics to an existing photo album, first set up your camera phone preferences according to the instructions in 17.1.
Then, go back to the album you were just looking at, and scroll down to "ADD TO ALBUM". If your camera phone preferences have been set up, you should see a section called "PHONECAM". Click on the link to reveal the phonecam address for that album. It should look like something like this:
Save that address to your phone's address book, and you can upload to that album from your phone whenever you want.
Note that every album has its own unique email address, so if you want to upload to a different album from your phone, you'll need to visit that album and look for its phonecam address.
Also note: any text you send to a photo album from your phone will be discarded.
