So on the 28th of this month (Dec) I will be leaving the tiny island of Okinawa and leaving my beloved ball & chain the USMC behind to pursue my career as a photographer. I'm going into fashion, beauty, and editorial work leading with a conceptual and surreal style. I've been focusing hard over the last four years to do shoots, learn the needed skills,...

So I just left Okinawa, Japan to do have a peaceful and quiet trip to Bangkok and China where I can reflect on my thoughts, and focus myself on my greatest talent, photography.

Nah I'm bullshitting! I went to Bangkok to party like a f'n GOD! Seriously though, I got to do both. Bangkok is an insane city. The neon lights, bars, babes and booze...

Great shots, sounds like you had a blast!
blacksmithphoto:
Yeah, had a blasty blast. Traveling is usually better with friends, but I was able to make friends there.

Went out to do some street photography last night on one of the busiest streets in Naha. Wanted to share some of my experience. Had a great time. Visited the fish market which is always bustling with people. Please enjoy.

I really want to become a SG staff photographer, but approaching girls about it isn't easy. Too many photographers use the camera to be creeps,...

Maybe try ModelMayhem and see if there are any potential models in your area. That's pretty much how I got started. Maybe there is a Japanese version of that. There are tons of people online that want their pictures taken, and if you continually get better and people like you then your good reputation will grow and more people will want to shoot with you. Hope that helps!

Thanks Writeboy, it helps for sure. Looking at the number of sets you have gives me the impression that you are one of the people I should ask about going Staff. I'm on a tiny island here in Japan, but will be back in the States soon so I suspect the number of potential SG opportunities will grow significantly. Thanks for the response.

Well I'm back from my all expenses paid vacation! The American government paid to fly me all the way to Afghanistan and paid for everything the 9 months I was there! Lucky me! If you cannot tell this is sarcasm. I have just returned to Kyrgyzstan and am very appreciative of trees! When we landed the smell of fresh (shit scent free) air rushed into...

A new SG friend of mine, Hora (France) and I have been chatting back and forth about Paris, and Japan. It got me thinking about some of the amazing places I've had the privilege to visit, the awe inspiring people I've had the pleasure of meeting, and some of the seemingly insane things I've done during my little life. I'm not a (warning clich coming)...

Time off work...

Well I'm taking a bit of time for myself. I'll be leaving the country, and my family behind for about 6 months for "work abroad" so to speak. I'll be taking this week to work on my photography and hopefully submit my first SG hopeful set. Damn I love this site!

Confidence or Cocky?smile

So if you could not tell from my profile I'm a photographer. A lot of people say they love photography, and lot of people say they are passionate about it. I can say, without any doubt, that I am simply fanatic about photography, almost obsessive. This is my visual art, my way to communicate my vision into the world, and allow those...

I know the feeling you describe, but I file it under "overzealously enthused zest for action" because while it's thrilling and fun, I also often make dumb mistakes with it. I feel confident in a much quieter mode, when I get the feeling everything's coming together and working out the way it should.
blacksmithphoto:
That's true. I often make simple mistakes when I get that way. over/under exposure or forgetting the ISO is too high. I find that there are few things that give me this feeling, for me the most dominate is my photography. What gives you that ""overzealously enthused zest for action" ?
