I'm reading "Kicking Ass and Saving Souls," David Matthew's biography of real-life action figure Stefan Templeton. So far, Templeton has been a deep-sea diver, a humanitarian relief worker, a blackbelt, a lover of a few dozen or so beautiful women, and an avenger for the weak in the ghettos of Baltimore. He knows several languages, survived an attack by the Yakuza and oh yeah, I'm...

An old friend of mine, a man I worked with back in the 1990s but haven't seen in many years, attempted suicide last week. I have made only oblique mention of this terrible event in my Facebook and Twitter, because those accounts are read by clients of mine and I prefer not to reveal much of myself to the people who pay me (more for...

I am so sorry to hear about your friend. I hope you find peace with this and have a good support system there with you. We'll all be thinking about you here.

Sorry about your friend.

I don't like the way this current internet meme is sullying the word "rapture." It should stand for the feeling one gets from something they really enjoy: a delicious meal, a perfect day at the beach, a transcendent piece of ass. That, and that alone, is rapture. I'm not digging the word as a punchline.

That said, some of the Rapture jokes I've heard have...

Goddamn right, it's a beautiful day. The Seattle sun is out and making up for months of lost time. A parcel of indie bands is performing around the neighborhood today as part of a KEXP deelio. The Seattle Erotic Art Festival is opening tonight and I'll be there, even though my entry -- an all-toy version of "The Dream of the Fisherman's Wife" -- failed...

This isn't the most intuitive bl-gging interface I've ever used. Sometimes I've got to post a YouTube video of Arnold Schwarzenegger growing "FRRRREEEZE!" because That's The Way I Feel Now. Anyway, it's here, and someday I'll figure out how to embed it. Simply dropping the embed code in here doesn't seem to work, and frankly, this video isn't worth the effort. I bet you...

Damn! You are right. I do want to see the video. Why must you tease us so? wink I hate when the links do not work on SG and you can not include the things you want in your blogs. Every time I chose to post a picture I have to follow several steps to get it to work because when I go to browse my computer for the file it freezes up. So I must first write my blog. Then I must copy it and save into a word processing program. Then I have to completely act as if I am writing a new blog in a new windows and then it allows me to browse for and post the picture in my blog. So frustrating sometimes! mad I totally know how you feel right now!

I started this day pretty bummed out, and truth to tell I'm still kind of sad for reasons that I won't go into now. But I will say that it's tough to stay depressed on Norwegian Constitution Day. Ballard, the Seattle neighborhood I've lived in these past nine years, has a huge party and parade every 17th of May, even though at this point the...

That's weird -- I made the "Holla!" from my feed and it was supposed to attach to your announcement above. Anyway, I love this photo of Tink and Jessica. I mean, she's not just checking out Jessica's rack... I believe that's jealousy in her sparkly, blue eyes. Classic.

As I said in an earlier post, it's my intention to write a bl-g entry about every category in the drop-down menu. Today it's money, because that's one of the topics that least interests me -- right alongside "war," "politics" and "pictures of me." And I've got to admit that money has been too large a figure in my daily life for too long --...

The life of a freelance journalist is filled with things that suck: the constant hustling for work; calling editors to check up on overdue payments; sitting for hours and hours in your own home office, feeling like you're never going to see the outside world again. But all of that is nothing compared to how much I hate, hate, _hate_ transcribing interviews.

Listening to the...
