I suppose that's very true. Sheesh, you really are such a nice guy, man. It's definitely no mystery how you're so personable. My favorite ex once asked me if my brother was as "sweet" as I was. That was years ago, and that word hasn't been applied to me very often since. But I know that part of me is still there. I'd like to think so, anyway.
I mean, regarding the importance of people not getting hurt... Yes, if you ask me pointblank if I really want to see somebody get hurt, right there, on the street right in front of me, I'll say "no, of course not" every time. If I say anything else, I'm just posing. Now, if I'm at a show and there's a great pit, do I want to see broken bones and noses? No. But do a few scratches and bruises make it more interesting? Yes, absolutely! I've been knocked on my tall ass plenty of times (the more inches in height you have, the easier it is to knock you off balance), and I've never even considered making it into a fight when it happened in a pit.
But real violence (as opposed to lightly-violent energetic dancing), is awful, especially when you consider how delicate our bodies really are. There's a Mike Patton lyric in an old Faith No More song (Ricochet) that goes "it's always funny until someone gets hurt, and then it's just hilarious". That's just Patton being sarcastic and stupid, and aware that he's being stupid, and that's why it's funny. But with regard to the nature of true violence -- the essence of why it's so pointless -- I think MLK put it best when he spoke in reference particularly to racial violence, though applicable to any circumstance...
"Violence as a way of achieving racial justice is both impractical and immoral. It is impractical because it is a descending spiral ending in destruction for all. The old law of an eye for an eye leaves everybody blind. It is immoral because it seeks to humiliate the opponent rather than win his understanding; it seeks to annihilate rather than to convert. Violence is immoral because it thrives on hatred rather than love. It destroys a community and makes brotherhood impossible. It leaves society in monologue rather than dialogue. Violence ends by defeating itself. It creates bitterness in the survivors and brutality in the destroyers."
It was definitely a good time having dinner with you at Boomerangs. I very much appreciated the salad and chicken, and the chicken I got myself was awesome. (I was just a little thrown by how long they took with TDH's mac & cheese.)
So, should we be doing something else again very soon? How's the whole car incident coming along? Can your ride be resurrected? If not, I'd pick you up from wherever if we SG peeps decided to go out and about.
I just got done telling DM that I still haven't seen Coraline, but I'm assuming you have. If that's the case, is it good enough that you'd want to see it again? I need to go check it out before it disappears from theatres.
