Living in Ireland

So lets see – small talk ..anything interesting happening today?

Got an email at work at like 14:30

“Good afternoon Gabriel

Please may I ask you to ring Conor *edited* on *edited* as a matter of urgency as you are unable to return to your apartment at the moment.

Regards
*edited*

so yeah right that's obviously one of the days where my cellphone is at home ..like pretty much any day never really use it except as an alarm clock

..anyways I borrow one from the person next to me and give that Conor person a call - whoever he may be – already thinking about what water pipes might have burst this time…

Blabla he starts talking about how they found something close by and the area is currently not available blabla something about a pipe was not entirely sure I understood him right though – bad reception inside the building and all..

Just to make sure asking again what exactly was found – sooo..... no burst pipes after all just a pipe-bomb.

Wait…what? …yeah pipe bomb – police has sealed the area of for an undetermined amount of hours and an Irish Army Explosive unit is working on dismantling a bomb right next to my apartment....

Positive side – looks like I’m getting a new book and find a nice Cafe after work to spend some time before getting home.....

Some people seem to just get into the wrong kind of "spirit(s)" for christmas here. 24th and 25th most of the shops and restaurants here as well are closed - just one thats open in proximity to our work place - so for 24th and 25th for those people that have to be in for work - the company is paying for lunch - so far so good

Rather sunny day decently warm no snow and just a little rain outside after lunch - which resulted in a double rainbow - incredibly beautiful - and of course no camera with me - stayed there a little talking and enjoying the view

so there were four of us walking back to the office we meet an lady probably in her 40's carrying arround some weird bags like you'd expect them on homeless people but still dressed rather good expensive shoes and all - walks straight to us from half a street away shouting "hey where you from" ( could not have had heard any conversation yet from that far away ) sounded pretty drunk already ( was about 3pm) so we just ignored it and continued walking

lady went on always repeating her question one of us went "right now? just from there having lunch"
lady went "noooooooooooo" ( insert "Murloc" sound here or just google "murloc sound" of you're not into gaming )
told here that most of us are from Germany - lady made her murloc sound again "I hope you all die of cancer yu killed my people and steal all our money - god will judge you - and deport you from Ireland ..you wont be laughing anymore then"

I can in theory understand all the reasons - ww2 blame - bad economy in Ireland etc.etc. - but its still just sad to still see grudges like that arround.

Not my thing - and I know Ireland is still a rather religiously oriented country - but God taking part in deportation - thats hands on religion ...respect. eeek ..or not

Vacation time again soon(ish) - and sometimes I'm really wondering if I should just spent it differently - the basic concept why we (usually) even get vacation is to "relax" from stressfull work.

I pretty much always use it to fly back home to Germany to visit my baby sister, parents and friends - which again means beeing on the road a lot and having,,, you could call it appointments ,,,as people just dont always have time. Not to give an wrong impression I really enjoy all of it - but the whole "relaxing" part simply does not happen an awful lot that way. Usually February is is the first time a year this happens as there are two birthdays within family and friends that can be covered within a week that way. February in Germany that time arround generally also means icy roads, its snowing/raining all the time and cold.

Thats when you start to wonder if maybe that time might just be better spent somewhere at sandy beaches oceans on some Carribean island with swimming and some good books.

Or maybe all my friends should simply coordinate their vacation to perfectly fit mine and go there as well. biggrin

Oh well ...back to Ireland where seasons do not matter ... it always rains...
