A quick update on my life: I returned yesterday from my SECOND time through basic training. This time was with the Army. I realized just how big a bird nerd I am while I was there. I'm sure plenty of people on this site have been through this training and can attest that it is not exactly a place where one has lots of spare time, or is even allowed to look around all that much. In the ten weeks I was there, I identified several Scarlet Tanagers, a Brown-Headed Nuthatch, a Gray-Cheeked Thrush, Eastern Bluebirds, Northern Mockingbirds, and a few Red-Bellied Woodpeckers. I'm pretty sure I heard a Blue-Gray Gnatcatcher as well, though I didn't SEE it, and it was far enough away I may not have accurately heard the song, so I'm not calling that one a positive I.D.

I'm sure all of you are just thrilled about this post, so I'll end it here. I was excited about the IDs I made, as all are life-birds for me, and every ID happened when my morale was very low, and they reminded me what I had outside, when I got back home and lifted my spirits right when I needed it most. smile
